Emmy
What about a book of fairy tales? Or maybe a doll?

abbeyej
Dd got her Madeline tea/picnic set when she was 2.5, and it's still getting frequent use more than 4 years later. Our set is porcelain and comes in a wicker picnic basket with spots for each of the pieces (4 cups, 4 plates, teapot, creamer, sugar bowl, four forks, four spoons, four knives, four cloth napkins and a table cloth). I love that it's self-contained (easy to clean up and put away, and the porcelain is kept safe between uses), and it has everything she needs for a doll picnic or tea party. Here's a butterfly tea set that is similar to what dd has and has loved for so long: http://www.amazon.com/Schylling-BYTSB-Butterfly-Teaset-Basket/dp/B00083HIEA I've seen these sets by Schylling in Toys R Us and other standard brick-and-mortar stores, if you need to find something locally. Desert Rat
A special book would be my vote. Books usually have more sentimentality to me than toys.

We have this same set! Dd loves it! She makes me tea at least twice a day. She gets it right every time - little sugar and a little cream. LOL We've had to glue it a couple times as they've been dropped, but that only adds to the character (IMHO).
