phathui5
So I think we're going to take the next two weeks off school so I can put some energy into 2009 lesson planning and cleaning my house. It seems like every room of the house needs decluttering and cleaning. I really need to do some lesson planning. I haven't lately and we seem to get more done when we have a plan. I'm thinking I want to plan out Jan-March, so that it's done. Anyone else taking off the next couple weeks to have some planning/cleaning/organization time? SquirrellyMama
This was the exact post I was about to write. We are done tomorrow. I will be planning Jan-May in the next two weeks. Maybe I should just do Jan-Mar and take a Spring Break to plan Apr - Jun. A break sounds great. Kelly
Tracey in TX
Tomorrow is our Christmas party day! LOL Seriously, it's my birthday. We take off our bdays and make it a special day. Today rocks, too! We finished "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens yesterday. We're watching three versions of the movie ("A Christmas Carol" followed very closely to book; Flintstone's animated version; "Ebbie" a modern-day version with female main character) to compare/contrast. DS is sick, so it's a great way to include him while enjoying a quiet day before holiday break. Two weeks of cleaning, organizing, and planning (for me) while kiddos frolic outside. JudoMom
I need to do some serious planning. I always have grand plans beginning in August, and then my in-laws come for a week+, and this year we did a co-op that cost us 12 Fridays and some rhythm to our weeks, then we lose a week at Thanksgiving, and we just haven't gotten back in the groove before our scheduled break that starts on Monday and goes through the 2nd. It seems I spend most of our time every fall getting back in the groove after interruptions, while the months of Jan-June are much more predictable and our routine and momentum is easier to keep. Hopefully now that I realize this next August I'll have better expectations for the months of August-December instead of spending that time feeling behind and beating myself up internally. If I have time, I'm going to declutter the game closets and there is a kitchen cupboard that's bugging me, and I need to organize the pantry. But that would just be a bonus, as I plan to spend the next 2 weeks recharting our course for the next 6 months, enjoying time with my dh and boys, and I hope to get a day that I can spend writing. hornblower
Yes, we're taking a break too; we'll finish tomorrow & return on Jan 5. I've already started some of the planning - I need to order a few things for next term so I've got to figure things out now so there's time for delivery. phathui5
I've started my cleaning lists. It's a legal pad with a page labeled for each room. That way I can put a list on each page. I told ds1 that I'll pay him .50/15 minutes to play with the baby so I can clean and I'm also going to try to get my mother's helper scheduled for a few hours each week. LisaKinVA
Next week we'll be off -- although my oldest has a few "make-up" lessons he'll have to complete in Lit, Grammar and Spelling. We're completely "off" the 23rd -25th, but will be doing baby-prep list (cleaning... cleaning... cleaning) the 26-27. The 28-30 we have school. We're off the 31 and 1... and from that point on, we're on "baby watch." Which means, as long as I haven't had the baby, we're doing school! coffeefreak
We've been off for 4 days now and all I've done is sit at this computer, in my pjs and drink coffee! Today, we're watching the complete first season of "Little House on the Prairie." I've got my eyes averted to the clutter.
phathui5
I'm using this weekend to make up all my to-do lists for the weeks off. I don't actually start cleaning or lesson planning until Monday.
Guest
YES! Today I went through and purged the crafts I want to keep and tossed the rest. I organized our school room so that it will be already when we start again. I even made some headway de-cluttering my bedroom. I have 3 trash bags ready for goodwill...feels good! LBC
Yes, we are doing the same. Planning, cleaning, and a bit of relaxing, too! We're all really ready for a break around here. Lori
Parrothead
I won't start planning 2009 until some time in January. I have been feeling the itch for the past couple of days. Cleaning I won't do. This house is too small to get too cluttered. I'll wait until spring.
OnTheBrink
I always do an "interim holiday term" from Thanksgiving to New Year's. It relieves me of the pressure of getting a full load of school done, and we have some extra freedom to do fun stuff. Then, during the week DD goes with her father, I buckle down and do the Jan-June planning. Nothing like a fresh new year for some fresh new school planning! swellmomma
I am doing this, I am even planning on renting a skip for a few days to do a major declutter and haul away all the broken toys, furniture etc. I spent some time today figuring out where I am going to begin(with me that is half the problem), I want to enter this next year with a clean slate in the house and a plan of action for the second half of the school year. farmgirlinwv
Today is our last day of the year as well. We will be out of town for a week. The week after Christmas will be spent getting on track for 09 and my getting ready to go back to nursing after 7 years!
phathui5
Here are the rooms I want to get done: Living Room Dining Room Kitchen Mud/computer Room Playroom Our Bedroom Bathroom Office Kid Bedroom #1 Kid Bedroom #2 Upstairs Living Room/Playroom Basement Does anyone have any chore/winter cleaning/decluttering tips or things to-do that I should remember? I'm also thinking of using the "Motivatedmoms" list to keep things in order after the big cleanup. Does anyone have experience with that? The Governess
Yes! I'm taking off the next two weeks for Christmas break and will be planning out all of next year. Which at this stage shouldn't take very long, I'm just going to read through my FIAR manual and write up a cheat sheet for each week's activities. And I'm going to order FLL and WWE because we might start using those soon. Of course, I *accidentally* took the last 2 weeks off too, due to sickness and Christmas shopping and get-togethers. :D
