73349
So we did a Gram staining lab in the kitchen. There's both crystal violet and safranin now staining my laminate countertop. Ethyl alcohol got some of the crystal violet off, but I would like further improvement. Soap and water is getting me nowhere. Anybody BTDT? What worked?
Indigo Blue
Try baking soda? Maybe mix Dawn soap and baking soda into a paste and try that. A bit if bleach on a paper towel, get the counter wet, let sit for 10 minutes. Try that.
stephanier.1765
Yep, total homeschooler move. You'd think there'd be a great homeschooler fix and I hope someone pops up with one. I second @Indigo Blue's suggestion. Good luck!
prairiewindmomma
Crystal violet is removable with bleach and water. ETA: you can use acid dichromate for glassware in a lab to remove it, but I am not wild about that for home use. I’m not sure on the other stain. Spryte
Fun project! I would go straight to trying bleach. But you might also try rubbing alcohol, which I vaguely recall using at some point. Good luck!

That's what we used in the vet clinic for all sorts of weird lab stains.
Alte Veste Academy
Barkeeper’s Friend in powder form and a Magic Eraser got two shades of hair color out of my DD’s sink countertop. She is very lucky it worked so well… Edited February 14, 2023 by Alte Veste Academy
Arcadia
I had to use Magic Eraser dipped in warm soapy water to clean stain residues off laminate after wiping off the stains with alcohol wipes.
athena1277
Barkeeper’s Friend is my go to for hard to clean stuff like that. In a previous house we had white countertops that accidentally ended up with a bad rust ring. I tried lots of things to get it off. Most did nothing. Barkeeper’s Friend took it off with just a bit of scrubbing.
