"fancy" seven-layer salad recipe?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a recipe for a "fancier" than usual layered salad? I LOVE the one with peas, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, cheddar, etc., but I am wanting something a little dressier. PLEASE don't tell me to just making something up! I am too OCD for that!

I was thinking of something that maybe had blue cheese in it? I do love the ranch-y type topping. I guess I am trying to figure out a way to turn that yummy wedge salad from Johnny Carino's into a layered salad!

Any ideas?

I am NOT telling you to make something up, 'kay? ;)

But I had to google Johnny Carino's and found this:

Italian Wedge Salad

a hearty wedge of fresh iceberg lettuce topped with our roasted garlic ranch dressing, applewood smoked bacon, candied pecans, gorgonzola cheese, fresh apple slices and Roma tomatoes

So what I would do is:

Bake a head of garlic and then add it to my favorite ranch dressing (which is is Hidden Valley). I probably wouldn't add the whole head, just a few cloves. I'd buy candied pecans somewhere...hopefully I'd find them. Then I'd layer the other ingredients but I'd add shredded carrots b/c that sounds good to me. And I'd also mix the gorgonzola with some shredded mozzarella b/c gorgonzola is so strong.

Does this help?

Ooh, that sounds good! And then you could serve it up in a pretty glass trifle bowl. Pampered Chef has their trifle bowl as a hostess special this month.

Not fancy, but still delicious is that cornbread, black bean, etc. layered salad. It is very similar to the bacon and pea salad, but with a southwestern edge.

I have just decided to serve everyone copycat wedges. Now is NOT the time to be experimenting outside my family, but I think I will just do as the other poster suggested and layer up the ingredients. I mean it can't be THAT hard! :D
