Unicorn.
We are having Christmas w/ dh's family on Monday. I have absolutely. no. idea. what to get his neice. She's going to be 16 in about 2 weeks. What do 16 yr old girls want? Her mother was no help. Oh, they are very well off, have everything- keep up w/ the Jones's type. My limit is about $25. Help!!! Oh, and ideas for her 13 yo brother would be great too. I don't know that he does anything but play video games. I do know he doesn't read for fun, and wouldn't appreciate The Dangerous Book for Boys ,or anything like that. Any ideas?
newbie
Does she like conservation and saving animals, defendersof wildlife has an adopt an animal program that start at 25.00. Also the world vision is a great idea, to put a donation in her name. If they have everything these are great gifts for teens.
Brigitte
My fall back position for my niece and nephews on dh's side (also wealthy and need nothing) is iTunes gift certificates.

It would defenitely not be appreciated by her. I was hoping for a little more wow, or personal, or......?
jenn-
She is 16. She wants money. If you want it to be more personal than cash in a card, find out what shops she likes and get her a gift card for one of them.

Sorry, but I was going to suggest an iTunes gift cert. as well. :tongue_smilie:
Brigitte
 That's what her mom told me to get her. I was hoping for a little more wow, or personal, or......? I am adding something small and personal with the gift card (a "Life is Good" t-shirt for one of the boys, for example). I hate giving gift cards, but once kids reach a certain age, it is the easiest thing to do (and know they like it). Last year the boy asked for ties, etc. from Vineyard Vines. Each tie was $65 plus shipping. That hurt. :tongue_smilie:

I once got a gift certificate for that for my neice and she loved it. I didn't mind giving her that type of gift because it was so specific. But I understand about hating just general gift cards. My sister is trying to convince me that a card to her favorite book store would send her dd into 7th heaven, but to me just giving a gift card is a) the lazy man's way out for the giver and b) too mercenary on the part of the recepient. Caroline
A Vera Bradley toiletries bag? (I think that is what you call it.). They run about $25. For your nephew, I saw a World of Warcraft daily calendar today at Barnes and Noble.

For what it's worth. That would be better than.....making tea :D. I'd LOVE a gift card to my favorite bookstore. And a day to spend there. That hurt. :tongue_smilie: I was about to come and post that none of those ties are worth nearly that much... btw they are $75 each now... but then I saw this one. I LOVE it!!! and I collect flying pigs. But, then again, I still won't spend $75 plus shipping.
KidsHappen
I always request suggestions from the recipient themselves or someone who knows them very well. If no specific suggestions are offered I always default to a gift card that I know that they will use and love. IMO that is the purpose of a gift, to give something that the recipient would like to receive. Frequently this allows the person to get something that they would really like but might not think to ask for. This is especially so for someone who might not get to shop for themselves otherwise. It is nice to give a gift card for a tangible item so that not only do they think of you when using it but also remember you gratefully whenever they use said item. On the other hand, I absolutely abhor clutter and would hate to think that I gave someone something that they don't need, don't want and won't use.
