JenneinCA
My mom is very hard to buy for but this year she is in to knitting socks. So I want to get her some yarn for knitting. Can you recommend a good online yarn store? Jenne in CA
Georgie
There are a lot out there. I have had good customer service from yarnmarket.com
Mom2legomaniacs
Knit Picks, The Loopy Ewe, Simply Socks are a few that I know have good reps. I have ordered from Hazel Knits on Etsy and had fabulous service with great quality yarn (for socks). Also, Creatively Dyed has great service and really nice yarn too. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5169054 (hazel knits) http://creativelydyed.com/?mainURL=/store/category/cyco/Sock_Fingering.html Here are links to 2 of them with specific product lines -- hand dyers. The 3 at the top are more general carriers of varieties of yarns. Hope this helps!
Saille
http://www.purlsoho.com is a little more upscale, but oh my gosh, they have gorgeous Koigu sock yarn.
AnnetteB
We've ordered basic yarns from JoAnn.com with free shipping and sales it has worked well for our beginning knitters.
Mom2legomaniacs
I don't know how much you know about knitting and yarns. But if you don't know much about it, you might want to ask questions before ordering to make sure you have enough to get a pair out of the order. Some skeins are of 50 gram size which would require 2 balls (and you would want them to be of the same dye lot as well). If you already know all of this, then feel free to ignore. JenneinCA
Thank you! I am thinking about buying her two balls of this yarn: http://www.simplysockyarn.com/servlet/Detail?no=79 and two balls of this: http://www.simplysockyarn.com/servlet/Detail?no=50 Do you think that would work? Jenne in CA Yes. It think those would be lovely and make really cute socks. I have some Cascade hand painted in my stash drawer right now. Really pretty stuff! Socks are fun! The socks in my avatar are made with the Creatively Dyed yarn. I won some in a contest. It is really nice and has fabulous yardage for the price too!
