😩!!!

Just a vent as I'm having a little pity party over here.

It started with getting sick on my b-day.  I double masked and isolated from my family for 10 days to make sure it wasn't Covid.  I did test negative several times and did a PCR (because of a surgery scheduled the next week).  I paid $59 for a stupid CVS phone visit with a jerk of a doctor on the 10th day.  He wouldn't prescribed antibiotics.  I was not getting any better, but knew it wasn't Covid.  I went up to CVS Minute Clinic the next day and lucked into their only open appt.  I got antibiotics from them (for the sinus infection I thought I had) and was feeling better the next day.

I had cataract surgery on June 15th.  I spent most of my quarantine time (see above) worrying whether I would have to cancel that surgery.  Thankfully I didn't and they did go well - Yeah for me!!  If that had been postponed, my more serious eye surgery would have been delayed, which would not have been good.

My dad fell 3 times in 6 days.  He has not fallen since he fell last July when we got the caregivers in 24/7.  The first time on my boys' b-day.  The temp caregiver left his bed rail down and went to the bathroom.  He won't ask for help if the rails aren't up.  He fell getting out of bed by himself.  She said he convinced her to leave them down 😞.  She is not coming back!  The other 2 times his caregivers were able to get him on the floor gently.  He is heavy and hard to get up so he was on the floor for awhile.  He was like he was when I took him to the hospital ER in March where he couldn't really walk at all.  He is back to his old self now.

Anyway, I was over with him a lot on July 3rd and 5th, along with 2 different caregivers and the owner of the caregiving company.  The caregiver on the 3rd tested positive 2 days later.  The caregiver on the 5th tested positive 3 days later.  By the grace of God, my dad was spared and I was spared.  The owner of the caregiving company was pretty sick too, but has tested negative numerous times.

On the 9th, I missed a step at took a header down my stairs.  Because of the distortion in my eye (the one I need surgery on), I have to be super careful on steps and curbs.  I was a little banged up, but thankfully not too bad.  Then on Tuesday, I did a super, super stupid thing and fell on my knee.  Ouch.  I have been resting, elevating, etc. and seem to be on the upswing.  But...I'm like I am done!!! I did manage to go take pics at our swim meet yesterday (we had senior last splashes) and I love doing it.  My knee did really well actually.  But...it is the only place I don't mask.  The other photog notified me this morning that he tested positive last night.

I'm like, really?!?!?

So...just to be safe, I am masking again in my house because I was around him unmasked.  But...everyone there is unmasked and I'm sure he isn't the only one sick.  2 more swim meets and a banquet and we are hibernating again, although I was getting ready to plan college tours for August.  We will just have to mask at those.  My 2nd surgery is Sept 9th.  Hoping to not have that cancelled.

So...while I know things could be a lot worse, I really do, I am just done.  Stick a fork in me done!!!

If you have read this far, please feel free to post your no good, very bad ??? below!

I feel ya girl. Hopefully you were outside at the swim photog session.

We are suppose to leave on vacation Saturday…..not even sure it will happen since my friend we are going with is sick with Covid right now. I was already super paranoid about getting it and taking it to her ( she is immune compromised) but now I am still paranoid about getting it in these last few days and not being able to go. ( if she is able to go.) I have been no where this week….I went in the pool store briefly on Monday…..and we went into Lowes briefly yesterday….masked of course.  I am not even seeing my parents until after vacation.

I am hoping this impending sense of doom leaves me once we leave for vacation.

It was outdoors thankfully.  But...a lot of people.  I still mask indoors at all times.

I pray no one gets Covid and you can go on your vacation!!!

Oh, no, you have had a run of it!

I will be amazed if we make it through this summer without getting Covid. My two youngest have a series of away camps and we keep getting notices of Covid cases at them. So far, so good but I’m not sure this will keep up.

So sorry. I will come to your pity party. In the last few weeks - Covid that has left me wiped out, a death of a beloved Uncle, broke two bones in my foot (my 'good' foot - the other foot is still not recovered from a bad twist) and then dh's car got totaled.

Looking forward to fall!

Yikes! That's no fun on top of all the other stuff.

I did a bunch of second guessing about an outdoor party where I didn't mask unless I was close to people (or to dart inside for the bathroom). We're two weeks out tomorrow, and I think we're okay. I had allergy symptoms and tested at the peak of those--negative. I have fewer symptoms when I mask for our daily walks, and the pollen was really building up with so little rain in the last month, so that's more evidence in the perpetual allergy/rhinitis pile. I finally decided though that during this wave, I will likely mask outdoors more than usual so that I don't have the horrible feeling of second-guessing everything! I have allergy symptoms nearly all the time, sigh.

You know our crazy summer story, and others probably know bits and pieces from other threads, but here's the gist...younger DS had major orthopedic surgery (scoliosis fusion surgery for a double curve). He has a connective tissue disorder that puts him at risk of certain complications, so he had extra testing before surgery to try to avoid those complications. Extra testing turned up additional diagnoses, some of which are related to his CTD and some are not. The specialist for one of those issues is booked out until August, so there will likely be another diagnosis to explain the findings coming from that appointment. He avoided the complications related to his CTD, but he had a host of unexplained and very rare complications post-surgery that had nothing to do with his CTD.

Post-surgery, he had pulmonary emboli, which required two ER visits and us knocking on every door available for a week to get them diagnosed in spite of crystal clear presentation and a solid family history). Some bloodwork related to his clotting was pending as of our last appointment (and some has to be repeated for confirmation), so he may end up with a clotting disorder diagnosis too. He's getting more testing this month so that he can get specialized rehab on top of his regular physical therapy. The orthopedic surgery itself had to be done a bit differently than normal due to unusual anatomy from the CTD, but it was a smashing success--without all of the complications, my son would've been a poster child for a super quick orthopedic recovery. This kiddo is astonishingly resilient, though we're all monitoring for trauma or a need for counseling (and realize it might not hit until he needs another surgery, etc.), and there are several routes to obtain counseling if he needs it. He has charmed pretty much all of his medical helpers, and he spread a lot of awareness of his CTD while inpatient, so that's one nice result.

Many (hugs)

We have so many specialist appointments that we are beyond cautious.

I've been dealing with pain for months because each time I see someone they send me to another specialist who takes months to see.  I went for a walk and they called with a cancellation opening while I was gone and dh didn't take the appointment 😭.  Still waiting.

Dh broke his hand this spring and needed surgery.  Everything is healed but his hand doesn't work and it should at this point of physical therapy 😭 He is being sent to a different specialist and thankfully the wait was only a week instead of the four weeks we were first told.  🤞🤞🤞 Hoping they can help him.

Life is currently exhausting

My husband broke his hand in multiple places on day one of a vacation abut 15 years ago. He didn’t have surgery to repair it until almost two weeks after the break and needed pins inserted. We were very worried when regular physical therapy did not seem to have him regaining functionality. He got a referral to a physical therapist who was a hand specialist and that made all of the difference. All told he did PT for almost a year, but his hand did return to normal and he has not had any issues since. We had to get a special machine for melting wax that he used before he did his exercises. I hope the specialist can help your husband!

Bless your heart. It's so nice to have a place to vent when things are tough.

I'm having a rotten summer too. I'm just thankful I really don't have any outside obligations. So blessed there.Covid and pregnancy are kicking my butt and I don't want to do anything which makes me sad for my kids.

I hope things look up for you soon. ❤️

I can't really complain a bunch, but I will anyway.  😛

June is always hell month here due to a mega work deadline 6/29, coupled with a late June day camp that requires me to drive a lot during the business day.  It tends to be a blur every year, but we look forward to 6/30 and relative freedom / travel.

This June, in addition to the usual stress:

  • My closet rod/shelf broke and I had to bring everything out into my bedroom, and then the closet fixit people who promised to come never did.  (That got resolved later in June.)
  • Our pup had to spend the night at the emergency vet, and had some trouble for a while thereafter.  It was a very short-term issue, in retrospect, but stressful in the moment.
  • Our pup's electric fence broke, and it took like a month to get someone to come fix it.
  • My retired cousin decided to take a road trip through my area, and I ended up having to throw a rather big family party (unexpectedly).  Not a bad thing, just not the most timely.
  • I also had to fit in some extra shopping trips for my kids to attend a fancy party.  One of my kids is hard to please/fit so that got interesting, but it ended fine.
  • Extra work due to our accountant leaving & a new government reporting requirement.  Add computer security, transition, and internet issues.
  • I broke our in-sinkerator and clogged the kitchen sink right before our road trip.  But I fixed that on returning from the trip.
  • Oh and our maids quit in a huff, in the middle of cleaning one day.  We're working on getting a new maid service & doing more hands-on cleaning than usual.

We took a road trip, bringing along 2 of my kids' teen friends, from June 30 - July 4.  That went well, all things considered.

However, in July so far:

  • We all got Covid at the tail end of the road trip.  Had to reschedule a ton of appointments and cancel a sleep-away camp.  (We're mostly back to normal health now.)
  • Driving school for my eldest kid - it's just been super hard and frustrating to schedule in-car lessons.  At this point I don't know if she'll get to take her driver's test on time.
  • My eldest's job schedule - the monthly schedules come out toward the end of the prior month.  We're not allowed to have any scheduling conflicts beyond one pre-determined vacation week.  However, try scheduling health appointments less than a month in advance.  Ha!
  • I normally try to get all the kids' annual health stuff done during summer vacation.  This year we're also trying to resolve some additional issues with mental health/medication, digestive health, and dermatology.  Add in my 5-year colonoscopy stuff and trying to fix my tailbone problems.  There are just a LOT of appointments, some of which have had to be rescheduled multiple times.  A lot of paperwork, food diaries, extra driving and stress.
  • Just found out we're having houseguests in August.  Need to do a ton of cleaning and maintenance over the next month.
  • One of my trusty long-term clients just quit his job.

Many things I wanted to do with my kids & pup are generally stalled so far.  My kids are taking advantage of my busy-ness to avoid doing things like summer homework, practicing their instruments, cleaning their rooms, etc.  😕

We're having a crazy spring, summer too. We flew halfway across the country because our eldest was in the hospital with Covid complications and needed help when she was released. (My husband and I sat across from the doctor's office at a shady graveyard and did crossword puzzles for a couple hours on my birthday, since we couldn't go in the clinic, there wasn't anything within walking distance, and we needed to be ready when her appt was over. Somehow, we did manage to have fun!)

The next month we went on a trip to celebrate our youngest's college graduation (first pleasure trip since pandemic) and my dh cracked a rib sand sledding, and I cracked my tibia and partially tore my ACL a few days later skiing. The next week, back at home, same dd and her fiancé were bicycling and he had a nasty fall and broke both bones in one wrist—had to have surgery and a plate inserted.

It's been two months since my accident and I am just now able to walk without crutches (except stairs) and was cleared to drive short distances, in town, last week. So, I have done a lot of sitting around this summer!
