WTMindy
We will be finishing up Apologia Zoology soon and I'd like to do a unit on the human body to round out 5th grade life science. Any thoughts of materials that are good for this level? I'd like it to be about 8-10 weeks long or so. Thanks!
King Alfred Academy
not sure what the grade level is, but there might be some resources that could help...I know The Heart of the Matter posted a human body unit study at their site recently. Sue G in PA
they have a separate Human Body book as part of the Life Science set. We are using it right now alongside the HOAC Human Body lapbook. Very informative. If you want secular, you could just do the lapbook on it's own and flesh it out with library books or the VanCleave Human Body for Every Kid. The HOAC lapbook comes with all the info you need to complete it. We use some Usborne books on the Human Body for color pictures and more info. as well. Sue G in PA
I missed that in your post originally...my brain is just a bit tired right now! I would, then, highly recommend God's Design for the Human Body (perfect for your ages, too!).
Alana in Canada
I came across this lesson plan for the Human body at Trivium Academy. (It's the last unit in the document. Uses Kingfisher as a "spine"--which if you make the kids memorize "mitochondria" is suitable for 5th graders) There was another one from someone named Karen, (from here) which looked like a lot of fun but I forgot to save the link. :(
Harriet Vane
There is a Human Biology book in this series. Ria originally recommended it to me, and I have been quite pleased with it.

Holly IN
I know I am late into this but I 2nd the recommendation of God's Design for Human Body (I highly recommend it!!) I am going to be using this next month to finish the year off. Plus our co-op is using this for the elementary grade levels of 3rd to 5th grade. Alana in Canada
The stuff at enchanted learning is quite detailed as well. Afew good books on experiments and you'd be set. I have Head to Toe Science by Jim Weise from the library and there are different recommendations in that link I gave you from Trivium Academy. We just did "hair" using the Kingfisher and then looked up further topics (well, OK, the pictures of gross skin burrowing insects and parasites) on Google. It was fun. Mrs Mungo
When we do the human body there are two Science in a Nutshell kits that I love to use (I should work for them or something!). First is Body Basics: http://tinyurl.com/2bohne You make a model lung and joint, you take molds of your teeth, it's awesome! Second is Smell, Taste and Touch: http://tinyurl.com/2aqhlf It has sort of typical experiments involving the senses.
