KSera
I’m seeing chatter on Twitter about the possibility of a national teacher strike if congress doesn’t act by Fall. Many teachers saying they’d be in. It’s one of the few things I can see having power to effect some change right now. And considering that the gun peoples’ solution is to make teachers have to carry guns rather than keeping guns away from dangerous people, it seems teachers are exactly the ones whose words and actions might speak loudest. 5

Honestly, while I support gun control 100%, our students have been hurt so badly by school closures, the idea of taking action in a way that denies them more education and stability is hard. I totally see that and it has been brought up, but if it means this doesn’t happen again, I think it’s absolutely worth it. I’m pretty sure most kids would think it was worth it as well. Some alternatives I’ve seen have been that the kids still go to school but the teachers aren’t teaching any of the usual curriculum during that time, instead focusing on social emotional learning.
