desertflower
Hi! I'm looking for a horror, detective and mystery books for my 11 yo daughter. I'm thinking Ali Cross for the detective series. Preferably, a clean book. Any recommendations? Thanks.
SilverMoon
Five Nights at Freddy's is horror and pretty popular with that age. It's a spin off from a video game character. My 11yo has been into it, but I confess I'm relying on his teenage siblings to keep up with this one. Amazon seems to have some pretty thorough reviews. If these are too mature a step down would be Goosebumps.
Lori D.
Horror Would a scary stories collection work?Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark -- and sequel volumes13 Scary Ghost StoriesFavorite Scary Stories of American ChildrenTales of Mystery, Suspense and SupernaturalTales for the Midnight Hour -- or the sequelAlfred Hitchcock's Haunted Houseful -- or another in this series Agreeing with @SilverMoon -- the Goosebumps series is good for that age. Possibly Coraline (Gaiman)? More for ages 14-18 are the old teen horror Lois Duncan books, such as Summer of Fear.Mystery / Detective So many fun options here -- pick your time period and type of protagonist. 😉 The London Eye Mystery (Dowd) -- contemporary London Theodore Boone series (Grisham) -- contemporary US Samurai mystery series (Hoobler) -- 1700s Japan Roman mystery series (Lawrence) -- ancient Rome The Westing Game (Raskin) -- classic "whodunnit" Can't think of a single book that directly combines horror/mystery/detective if that is what you are looking for... Possibly: The House with a Clock in its Walls (Bellairs) Edited May 7, 2022 by Lori D.
