Sleepycat
Hi, DS is in first grade in local public school. The school did his gifted evaluation and all his scores qualify for DYS. DYS requires a recommender that can comment on DS’s academic and intelligence excellence. Of course I asked his school teacher. She is more than happy to do that, but the school policy is that they can only sign pdf forms ( so the school can review and document them). DYS insists on the recommender to create an account and fill the online form. so here we are, staring at this silly problem. Did any other parents have similar problems? How would you suggest me to go around this? To find another recommender who is more technically accommodating but probably less qualified as a recommender just seems beating the purpose. thanks in advance for any suggestions. purpleowl
What an odd policy! Would the school be willing to let her take screenshots of the recommendation form before she submits it?
Sleepycat
“The district procedure is that we do not complete online forms and all forms need to be approved.” the process is, the teacher downloads the form, completes it, the school approves it, and the school mails it out. I guess this is just the way it worked in the past.
8filltheheart
I would email them with a copy of that information and ask if she can mail it in.
Arcadia
One of my kids’ tutors filled out the form for my kids. It is quite common for public and private schools to want to review and vet when their teacher is ask to write a recommendation letter. Mom_to3
We had someone with a PhD who knew DS very well fill out the recommendation. If the scores qualify, I don't think it matters all that much.
gstharr
Davidson Gifted Forum is the place for all things related to the application.
Sequoia Gifted
Hi! We’re a DYS family, and you can have someone else fill out the app. It’s been many years, but I know we picked responders who knew our kids’ specific strengths and unique interests far better than their classroom teachers. Just send an email, though, if you have specific questions. It’s an amazing community!
lamppost
You may have already handled this, but if he has qualifying scores, it shouldn’t matter too much who you choose as the recommender as long as they know him. We just used a family friend who’s known my kids since they were babies.
