You might have more success with a question about early elementary grades by posting on the K-8 Curriculum Board, or the General Board, rather than the Logic Stage (middle school grades) board. 😉 From what I can tell from a quick online search: Jeff, Mary, and Mike, plus their dog Bolo, were characters in The MacMillan Reading Program, by Albert J. Harris, Mae Knight Clark, J.L.. Wright, and M.
