Grace Hopper Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 I’ve sold there, but never clothing. Trying to disperse with a closet full of formal dresses. What do you do for people who want to try things on? Do you let them into your home? If not, where do you meet up? Quote
Catwoman Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 (edited) There is no way I would let people into my home to try on dresses. Honestly, I would just price reasonably enough so that people would be willing to take a chance on the fit, and I would also be happy to provide them with whatever measurements they wanted before they purchased. If you really want to let people try clothes on, maybe you could have a garage sale selling nothing but formal dresses, and curtain off a little area inside the garage or something so people could use it as a changing room. If you want to charge higher prices, maybe you could set up the garage as a cute little boutique. Edited March 31, 2022 by Catwoman 1 Quote

I really was looking for how others handled it, looking for alternate solutions. If I were going to buy a dress from someone I’d want to be sure it would fit, and I’d imagine other buyers might think the same. But I wouldn’t want to go into a stranger’s house to try it on, either! I wish I had my old house, there was a dressing room off the pool that would have been perfect. But nothing like that in the current house. 1 Quote

I buy when I'm willing to take a chance at the price I'm paying and so far its all worked out. 2 1 Quote
itsheresomewhere Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 If you don’t want the hassle- see if you have a formal dress closet or donation program at the local high schools. They take in dresses and the any of the kids can pick one out no charge. 2 Quote
Catwoman Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 Are there any nice consignment shops in your area that sell formalwear? They would take a percentage, but their selling price would probably be higher than yours, anyway, and you wouldn’t have to deal with customers at all. 1 Quote

Yes, I have some other consignment items to drop off, I can probably add these dresses to the bunch. I need to look into more upscale resale for a couple of these items though, a couple of my formalwear items that shouldn’t go to the teen shop iykwim. I’d held the dresses out thinking I’d get more selling them myself, but I am not sure I want to invest the energy into it. Quote
