Very cool! I guess I could tecnically see them, but I get a lot of light pollusion from the nearby parking lots and highway - also it's been cloudy.

I may have to take a drive to the country if the sky is clear tonight. 😃

I’ve lived most of my adult life in latitudes where they are occasionally visible, but the only time I’ve been (briefly) lucky enough to actually see them was on a backpacking trip in Manitoba.

Of course, I go to bed early so there’s no reason I would be awake should the opportunity present itself. Lol

Manitoba is perfect sky-gazing terrain. Few hills and trees and no mountains to get in the way. Saskatchewan is great, too. 😅

Ooooh.  We have a night hike planned for Scouts tonight.  We'll be sure to look up!

I've seen them twice around here.  Both times complete fluke that I happened to be looking at the sky at the right time.  The second time was while driving north on a major 400 series highway - they were just right there in front of me.  Then I heard about the solar flare that caused such amazing NL so far south on the news the next day.

For sure! We were right near the border of SK, actually—at Riding Mountain National Park. 🙂

That's a nice park. There are actually trees and gentle hills there! Tons of construction on the roads in the summer, though. 😉

Wow, I can’t imagine. We must have been in some remote corner, we only saw a couple of people while backpacking—2 hikers IIRC and a couple people on horses (a much more sensible mode of transportation on the prairie than hiking for sure) looking for elk, and one couple at the lake where we stayed our last night (and kinda sorta saw the northern lights). They let us use their canoe early the next morning which was lovely. 🙂

I didn't get my phone out on time to catch the really bright ones, and I tried to share my photo, but it doesn't show up well on here. Looks better/brighter on my phone.

Edit, photo shows up better (on phone, at least) if you click on it so there is a black background behind it.

How cool that you saw them.   What state?

We kept a look out here in WI and haven't spotted anything.

I live in Canada. I see them quite often. They were literally dancing and about 10x brighter about 60 seconds before I got my shoes on and out to the middle of the yard, past the trees to take the picture.

So cool.  Another reason I want to move to Canada!
