Is it bad to get up at 4???

Recommended Posts

I see the post below and that is when I normally wake up at 3 or 4 actually, if I sleep until 4 that is a REALLY good night's sleep. I generally have my quiet time at 4, get on the computer at 4:30 to do downloads when it's free until 5am. Do some of my financial chores, homeschool planning. Dh gets up at 5 am every day and leaves between 6 and 6:30 most mornings. The kids get up at 7am and we start school at 8. That said about 6, I am pretty much done for the day energy wise. Generally we are all in bed about 9 and asleep by 10. So that is 6 hours of sleep or more if I do sleep until 4, though I am often up at 1 or 2 before I go back to sleep. I just thought that was the way it was.

I thought the same thing about the other post. All my life, I've been an early riser...I think that's the key. It is my nature, not something new which it evidently was for the other poster.

I'm often awake at 4:30am. It's a lovely, quiet time of the morning.

Do you feel well and rested during the day? Are you prone to colds/flus and other illnesses?

If you are energetic and feel good, then you are getting enough sleep. I can only wish my body could get by on that amount of sleep! I require 8-9 hours to feel good and to stay healthy. I get it most of the time, although lately I find myself awake at 2 or 3 for an hour or so. Maybe I'm starting to need less sleep?

I love the feel of early morning once I'm actually up, but it's rare that I'll leave the comfort of my warm bed and get up before it's light outside. In the summer I get up early because the sun rises so early, but I make up for it by going to bed earlier. In winter I'd *like* to sleep until the sun rises, but that would be pushing 8:00 and I like to get up at 7:00 with the kids.

Just as ok as the fact that 4am is when i went to bed last night (this am?). :)

You should have given me a holler. I was still up, too. :D

I think it's just a matter of getting enough sleep -- and personally I don't do that when I stay up all night, but I don't do that when I get up early in the morning, either. If I go to bed by 10:00 p.m., I'm up at 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. and can't go back to sleep. It's hard to stick to a bedtime/getting up schedule when you're a vampire in this world! I've always preferred to sleep during the day time. My 9:00 to 5:00 bosses didn't appreciate that much.

I am definitely a morning person too! I fight every night to stay awake because if I go to bed too early, then I am rising at 4am. For myself, given that so many events take place in the evening, I prefer to push myself until 11pm, then rise at 6am. Last night I caved and went to bed at 10pm, so I've been up since 5am.

If you feel good, it's fine to wake up whenever you wake up. Some people are just morning people and some are not.

My husband usually wakes up around 4-5am. I don't think it is good for him because he is always tired, often needs a nap, prefers to go to bed by 9pm, and falls asleep instantly when he lays down. He sometimes falls asleep watching TV too.

I'm the opposite. I'm NOT a morning person; however, I'm very influenced by the seasons with my wake times. During the summer, that means I need less sleep and wake up earlier around 6:30-7:00am. During the winter, I need 10 hours of sleep and tend to struggle to get out of bed around 8:30am. However, unlike my husband, I rarely need naps (unless I'm sick or pregnant), prefer to go to bed no earlier than 10-11pm, and do not fall asleep instantly upon becoming horizontal. I also never fall asleep when I don't intend to.

Yes, it's bad. It makes me feel like a lazy layabout. :D

There's a funny part in one of the BBC Jeeves & Wooster shows where Bertie is visiting a country house and gets up waaay after everyone else.

The lady of the house (& the mama of the girl he's engaged to this time) inquires:

"Do you always breakfast at this hour?"

He replies, in slightly shocked tone:

"Oh no! Only when I get up early!"

I'm not a morning person. I force myself to get up because it's the only quiet time I have. I also need 8h of sleep. Closer to 9 is even better.

I missed the post to which you're referring, so I'm not sure why you ask. If the old maxim "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise" is true, I'm a sickly, penniless, dimwit.:D But while I do often go to bed as late as 4 a.m., and do only get a few hours of sleep each night, I think going to bed earlier and getting up earlier is more sensible. I honestly can not fathom going to bed at 9 o'clock at night, though. I would never stay sane that way.
