Grace Hopper Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 I am determined to complete my Swedish Death Cleaning prior to turning 60, which is nearer on the calendar than I care to admit. I have some collectibles - artwork, China, depression glass, and other odds and ends - that I think I can fetch some cash for (and I have done this before, so I have realistic expectations of what my profit could be). I have sold on fb marketplace, Nextdoor and eBay in the past. As I re-engage in this sort of activity, I am wondering about Etsy. I used to think of this as a place to purchase hand crafted/artisan items. However, my browsing today reveals that all kinds of collectibles and not-bespoke sort of items are now being sold there. So I guess my question is whether to open a “shop” on Etsy, or just use eBay again and plump prices to cover fees. I am not unwilling to cross-post on several sales venues, but I think it would be easier on me to have just one storefront, so to speak. Please share your two cents with me. Quote
JustEm Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Ebay gets the most traffic between the 2 overall but Etsy does do well with the type of things you mentioned. My opinion is you could likely charge more on Etsy but things will move faster on ebay. Not saying things will move fast, I'd have to see what you're listing to give a better idea of that, but just in general for me those things don't move super fast on ebay but do all eventually sell if priced right. 1 1 Quote

If one were easier than the other for me, for whatever reason, I'd do the easier one, bc I don't think the platform is make or break. 1 Quote
JustEm Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Also, if you already have an established presence on ebay that would lead me to point you towards ebay even more 2 Quote
