desertflower Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 Hello, Anyone use LL for high school? More specifically the American Literature book? Is the literature analysis deep? That's what I'm looking for. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Kassia Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 (edited) We started using it and switched to something else for the very reason you mentioned - no literature analysis. IIRC, it was just multiple choice questions testing comprehension. This was several years ago so maybe it has changed since then but we were disappointed with it since we were looking for literary analysis and not just comprehension questions. There might have been more to it but it was a while ago and that's what I remember being the reason we didn't continue with it. I wish I could remember more! Quote

What did you end up using for a deeper analysis? Quote

Sorry! I wish we had found something better for American Lit but we didn't. What we used was still better than Lightning Lit but it was outsourced and I didn't care for the provider/teacher at all. 1 Quote

I was looking forward to long discussions about literature and she hated it and just wanted to get it over with - lol. 1 Quote
MamaSprout Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 (edited) We used it. It was fine. I taught it in a co-op class. I mostly skipped the comprehension stuff but did most of the writing assignments. We used it following the year we did Windows to the World so my class had a pretty good foundation in analysis. Proud of her and definitely outsourcing it. 🤣 I was reading A Tale of Two Cities to her and there's a part in the beginning where it talks about a ghost and it's been 18 years. I thought they were digging up dead bodies. She looks at me with a bored look and says it's a metaphor, the guy has been in jail for 18 years. 😅 Well, excuuuuuse me. 😂 I hope she's right. Because I'm not sure. She'll know for sure I guess when she goes to class in a couple of weeks. Quote

That's another reason why I outsourced. I discovered that I really didn't have the skills to teach and evaluate writing the way I thought I could. 34 minutes ago, desertflower said: I was reading A Tale of Two Cities to her and there's a part in the beginning where it talks about a ghost and it's been 18 years. BakersDozen Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 I don't know if this is what you are looking for but my dd and I used Perrine's Literature and thought it truly superb. 2 Quote
desertflower Posted February 12, 2022 Author Posted February 12, 2022 Thanks for letting me know what you used. I'll look into it! I have never heard of it before. It's always good to know what programs are out there. Quote
