We started using it and switched to something else for the very reason you mentioned - no literature analysis.  IIRC, it was just multiple choice questions testing comprehension.   This was several years ago so maybe it has changed since then but we were disappointed with it since we were looking for literary analysis and not just comprehension questions.

Sure!  It felt like a lot of busywork.  There might have been more to it but it was a while ago and that's what I remember being the reason we didn't continue with it.  I wish I could remember more!

No worries.  What did you end up using for a deeper analysis?

Something different that I wouldn't recommend.  Sorry!  I wish we had found something better for American Lit but we didn't.  What we used was still better than Lightning Lit but it was outsourced and I didn't care for the provider/teacher at all.

I'm sorry you didn't find anything for your family.

Thanks.  It's fine now - she had no interest anyway and she's a STEM major in college doing well.  🙂
Hope you find something great!

Congrats!  That's great!  Unfortunately, I have a child who is totally interested.  😆

I'm jealous!  I was looking forward to long discussions about literature and she hated it and just wanted to get it over with - lol.

We used it. It was fine. I taught it in a co-op class. I mostly skipped the comprehension stuff but did most of the writing assignments. We used it following the year we did Windows to the World so my class had a pretty good foundation in analysis.

I was a biology major, so I'm not thrilled about it.  Proud of her and definitely outsourcing it.  🤣

I was reading A Tale of Two Cities to her and there's a part in the beginning where it talks about a ghost and it's been 18 years.  I thought they were digging up dead bodies.  She looks at me with a bored look and says it's a metaphor, the guy has been in jail for 18 years.  😅  Well, excuuuuuse me. 😂 I hope she's right.  Because I'm not sure.  She'll know for sure I guess when she goes to class in a couple of weeks.

That's another reason why I outsourced.  I discovered that I really didn't have the skills to teach and evaluate writing the way I thought I could.
