sassenach Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Shingles is only caused by varicella zoster, the virus that also causes chicken pox. There are a lot of other things that cause non-shingles rashes, though. 4 Quote

I have tried googling but only come up with chicken pox = shingles. I can't find mention of any other virus associated with shingles. Anyone know for sure or can point me to the info? I believe shingles is just a reactivation of herpes zoster (virus that causes chicken pox and shingles) subsequent to an initial infection. You can't get shingles without previous exposure to the virus- usually that's chicken pox, but it can also be after the (live) vaccine or an asymptomatic first infection. Quote
Tap Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Other viruses can not cause shingles (it is the reactivation of the chicken pox virus). But, stress and illness can trigger an outbreak. 2 Quote
