Well crap, I am sick. What is the responsible thing to do here?

I woke up sick:  migraine type headache, very very sore throat, a bit of a cough, general body aches, fatigue, chills, just don’t feel well.  Kinda queasy from migraine.  In the before times I would take ibuprofen and probably stay home but if work was nuts I might have tried to struggle in. I am vaccinated and boostered.

I made an appointment for a drive through pcr covid test that also tests for flu.  Is that sufficient? I’ll wear a mask around the house and run the air purifier.

Anything else I need to do to be a responsible citizen?

I hope you feel better soon! I'm glad you're getting tested for both Covid and the flu, because if it's the flu you could take Tamiflu or Xofluza.

Whatever it is, I hope it doesn't last long and that no one else in your house catches it!

Oldest kid was patient zero.  They were negative for covid on our last rapid, so I don’t think it’s covid but trying to be careful in case I’m wrong.

I think that's smart! Also, no matter what it is, you don't want to pass it along to anyone else!

Sorry you're sick. Three out of four of us had a ferocious cold for the past week and are just now better. It was definitely a cold; I had it worst and got a negative pcr test. It was stressful waiting for those results!

I hope you get some rest and feel better soon.

Yeah. I kinda wish I could get a strep test too, but they don’t bundle those.

If your child is better it’s probably a virus not strep.

That's really hard. I have a friend that had those symptoms, tested negative several times, doctor said, "not covid", PCR was positive 5 later as her symptoms were improving. I hope you feel better soon.

I hope you feel better soon! I’d probably try to isolate from the family, if possible.

Do you have regular migraine meds? Might help head off a migraine, whatever else you have.

This. It’s seeming very common with omicron for people to not test positive until after several days of symptoms. I would definitely act like it’s Covid (though even if it’s not, we always stay out of public when sick like that, and the sick one has their own towels in bathrooms, are on strict hand washing protocol, stay mostly in their room through the worst of it, etc. In the future, I expect it will mean masking in common areas of the house when someone has that kind of illness.)

Very sorry you aren't feeling well. Aren't we supposed to avoid going to places when we have the symptoms you exhibit whether Covid or not? Most the the screening forms I've ever filled out weed you out with these symptoms. I'd not go into work for sure.

Hope you feel better soon!

It’s challenging to fully isolate in our house. Our bedroom doesn’t have a door, and our bathroom situation doesn’t lend to one only.  And oldest kid has felt crappy for several days (tested negative on rapid and is improving but not completely well). I can wear masks in common spaces of the house, but it’s not a house set up for easy quarantine.

You're doing all the right things; if you're feeling this crappy tomorrow the only other I would consider is to contact your PCP and see if you can get an anti-viral prescription lined up.  If the PCR results are taking more than 24 hours to come back, maybe a rapid is in order. If you *do* have COVID and your symptoms *do warrant* the anti-viral, you don't want to miss the window by waiting too long.  (I haven't heard that about supply constraints with Tamiflu, and you should be able to get the regular-flu results quickly.)

I feel significantly better now that ibuprofen and NyQuil has kicked in. I don’t think I am sick enough that it’s likely flu.  It’s a I feel crappy and am sick but not necessarily incapacitated level of illness that could be pretty much anything.  I’m just paranoid because of <gestures vaguely around at everything.>

Right. The difficulty in correlating severity of symptoms to whatever variety of crud it is, is what makes me anxious.  I don’t want to spread it even if just a cold.  I just don’t know what it is.  And while the headache is pretty bad without ibuprofen, if that’s on board I feel moderately okay.  I could easily be persuaded it’s just sinus junk or something.  But I want to be responsible.

Does knowing what it is change anything? Like you said, you don't want to spread it whatever it is, so seems like you could just continue staying home and taking the precautions you can, and maybe you could test in another day or two so you could have access to treatment if it became warranted and so that you have it in your history if it ends up being covid.

Feel better soon.

Practically, no.  Anxiety wise, yes.

I'm sorry you're still feeling bad. Do you have the tissues with lotion?

The kids are I were down with our cold for 8 days. It sucked. Dh never got it.

It was a huge relief to have a negative pcr test. I had done a rapid test, but I felt so crummy it seemed worth it to get the more reliable test.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks.  I feel lousy but am very relieved that I’m unlikely to spread covid.  I mean, staying home regardless, but still.  I am sure I will feel better in a day or two.

I wish there was an easy route to a strep test and that there was something I could do about this headache.  Blah.

Assuming it’s a cold, I had forgotten how miserable they could make you!
