gardenmom5 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 We went to a business networking function for dh. At a bowling alley, with bowling alley food. The woman I was sitting next to - kept going on about her divorce. Then, I actually broke down and said - I must have dessert. I went to make brownies to have vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. I had to ignore dh talking to me because I couldn't get it through is head - DO NOT TALK TO ME WHEN I'M COUNTING CUPS!. . . . . I needed three cups of sugar and only had a 1/2 cu measuring cup, so I had to count. The batter seemed thick., but whatever . . . . . . . . . I just took them out of the oven. They looked completely wrong. Then it hit me - I didn't put flour in them. I want to cry. There's a reason I do not want people in the kitchen when I'm trying to cook. Dh doesn't see the problem - he loves to cook, and he puts people to work. Me - I lose track of what I'm doing. I'm not supposed to be eating sugar anyway. 14 Quote
Starr Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Hugs for you! Oh my, waiting for a treat and having not turn out is so disappointing even if it really isn't good for one. 1 Quote
Junie Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 (edited) I get distracted in the kitchen, too. My kids used to call me The Grumpy Chef. (ETA: They even had a song that they would sing!) They used to ask me questions like, "How do you spell elephant?" And I would answer with something like "C-H-I-C-K-E-N". They would get a few letters in and then figure out that I was not spelling the word that they wanted. I would tell them that I'm cooking chicken. If they want a different word spelled then it would be in their best interest to find someone else or wait until I'm not cooking. :) Edited January 30, 2022 by Junie 2 9 Quote
SounderChick Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Oh I am so sorry the same thing would totally happen to me and I would want to yell or cry. 1 Quote
Eos Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Hugs. Can you make it into a chocolate trifle? https://www.thekitchn.com/chocolate-trifle-recipe-23228845 3 Quote
Kassia Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Aw, that would upset me too. 😞 Big hug to you. 1 Quote

Maybe the weird aftertaste was the readiwhip . . 1 2 Quote
Scarlett Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 My best friend and I did this when we were 15. It came out of the oven and was all flat. We looked at each other and read over the recipe about 5 times…..we finally saw the small bowl with the flour in it that had forgotten to add to the other ingredients. We laughed really hard. Oh to be young again. 3 Quote
Bambam Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 I totally get the don't-talk-to-me-while-counting when cooking. My DH does the exact same thing and doesn't understand why I want him to go away. 2 Quote
GracieJane Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Do you not like bowling? Or networking events? Quote

dirty ethel rackham Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Oh, I hate it when that happens. I had a family member interrupt me when measuring ingredients so I dumped the flour back in the cannister to remeasure ... only I had already measured in the leavening and sugar! Ackk! So I guestimated what the total volume should be and measured that off the top. The end result wasn't perfect, but I salvaged it. I think I still had some leavening in the flour until I used it up. HS Mom in NC Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Yep. I get it. Right there with you. Quote
Catwoman Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 I'm right there with you, too. Ugh! It's so disappointing and frustrating!!! Sending hugs! Quote

SKL Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 I'm similar when it comes to needing to focus. Apparently it runs in the family. Last night my brother was working on some piano fixing project at my dad's house. He's been at it for a month and it's still not done. I was making some sort of lighthearted joke, and suddenly he bumped something, which fell, causing a setback that merited quite a bit of vocal response on his part. Oops. Quote
Elizabeth86 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 I feel your pain. I keep screwing up my sourdough starter by accidentally adding tap water (the chlorine is bad) because my kids are fighting over who is adding what and who is stirring. 😩 Quote
math teacher Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 ((gardenmom5)) sorry you're having a bad day and I hope you are still able to enjoy the chocolate goodness. Quote
