We went to a business networking function for dh.  At a bowling alley, with bowling alley food.  The woman I was sitting next to - kept going on about her divorce.

Then, I actually broke down and said - I must have dessert.  I went to make brownies to have vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream.  I had to ignore dh talking to me  because I couldn't get it through is head - DO NOT TALK TO ME WHEN I'M COUNTING CUPS!. . . . . I needed three cups of sugar and only had a 1/2 cu measuring cup, so I had to count.  The batter seemed thick., but whatever . . .

 . . .

 . . .

I just took them out of the oven.  They looked completely wrong.  Then it hit me - I didn't put flour in them.

I want to cry.  There's a reason I do not want people in the kitchen when I'm trying to cook.  Dh doesn't see the problem - he loves to cook, and he puts people to work.  Me - I lose track of what I'm doing.

I'm not supposed to be eating sugar anyway.

I get distracted in the kitchen, too.  My kids used to call me The Grumpy Chef.  (ETA: They even had a song that they would sing!)

They used to ask me questions like, "How do you spell elephant?" And I would answer with something like "C-H-I-C-K-E-N".  They would get a few letters in and then figure out that I was not spelling the word that they wanted.  I would tell them that I'm cooking chicken.  If they want a different word spelled then it would be in their best interest to find someone else or wait until I'm not cooking. :)

My best friend and I did this when we were 15.  It came out of the oven and was all flat.  We looked at each other and read over the recipe about 5 times…..we finally saw the small bowl with the flour in it that had forgotten to add to the other ingredients.

We laughed really hard.  Oh to be young again.

Do you not like bowling? Or networking events?

I'm fine with networking events.

Listening to the woman go on and on about her divorce and her ex, was stressful.

Oh, I hate it when that happens.  I had a family member interrupt me when measuring ingredients so I dumped the flour back in the cannister to remeasure ... only I had already measured in the leavening and sugar!  Ackk!  So I guestimated what the total volume should be and measured that off the top.  The end result wasn't perfect, but I salvaged it.  I think I still had some leavening in the flour until I used it up.

See, my family laughs at me for having multiple sets of measuring cups, but it makes perfect sense!

Chocolate disappointments are the worst 😔

I'm similar when it comes to needing to focus.

Apparently it runs in the family.  Last night my brother was working on some piano fixing project at my dad's house.  He's been at it for a month and it's still not done.  I was making some sort of lighthearted joke, and suddenly he bumped something, which fell, causing a setback that merited quite a bit of vocal response on his part.  Oops.
