Elizabeth86 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 (edited) Oh my ladies. We always ask the kids to try one bite of everything. This evening my daughter just started “cooking” and she made “bread salad” The ingredients were sliced up salami, cheese, bread and bell peppers all floating in a bowl of water. She asked me to try it and I just couldn’t. She said you just have to try one bite of each thing, you don’t know if you like it until you try it. I think I’m dropping the one bite request. I understand now. 🤣 She also told me not to be picky about what spoon I got. The 3 year old was brave enough to try it! Edited January 29, 2022 by Elizabeth86 29 Quote
HomeAgain Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I was mildly impressed she made bread salad until I read further! 😄 Panzanella is a favorite here in late spring. But I would struggle to eat her version, too! 1 1 Quote
Elizabeth86 Posted January 29, 2022 Author Posted January 29, 2022 (edited) Do y’all want a picture? It’s vile. She wouldn’t try it either. The 3 year old was excited, she thought for sure it would be good, but she thought it was yuck. Edited January 29, 2022 by Elizabeth86 3 4 Quote

SounderChick Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 My middle used to do this all the time it was so gross sometimes I could barely stand the smell let alone take a bite. 1 Quote
ikslo Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 A little more bread and a few seconds in the microwave might allow me to convince myself it is a savory bread pudding? Maybe. I would have eaten it. After a few shots. 🤣 3 Quote
VickiMNE Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 We had the same rule with our kids. Which lasted until we were once traveling in Spain and we stopped at local establishment (ie. no tourists so no translation). My husband ordered Black rice and beans (he had Cuban food in mind). Only, it was black from squid ink and other seafood which he detests. He took one bite and SPIT IT OUT. In the restaurant. He's never lived that episode down. 😉 1 Quote
wintermom Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 That's such a great story! I never bothered with the "eat one bite" due to growing up with a sister who survived on peanut butter sandwiches until adulthood. She then studied at a culinary school and is an amazing cook and pastry chef. Our family was a little surprised at her chosen career. Who would have guessed? My ds "invented" the peanut butter and mayonaise combination and called it "potion potion." I tried it. It was about as bad as you'd expect. 😅 Good name, though. 1 Quote

My super picky daughter didn't grow up to be a chef, but at 23yo she now has a goal to try everything she is offered. She loves so many foods, that she once hated. I always encouraged the kids to try new things, but never forced them. For her, it worked out great in the end. 1 Quote
