ktgrok Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 So, after months of planning and thinking and stalking Ikea and buying and assembling I have the school/game room mostly done. A few more things to shelve/label, but with my bum wrist that's on hold a bit. But then...we got a cricut. And vinyl. So much vinyl. And I dragged out the cutting mat from my sewing machine. etc etc. Now all that is set up on a ridiculous folding plastic table in my bedroom now, lol. Back to trying to rearrange and figure things out. Thinking I might get something like this, it would hold the machine on the hidden shelf when not in use, and the shelves on the right would hold the easypress heat press thing, and smaller mats, and tools in the bins that swing out. Just not sure where in the house to put it (which determines color) and if it would really be big enough. You need a certain amount of clear space behind the machine..although it is on wheels so could pull it out from the wall when cutting if need be. Hmm.... https://amzn.to/3r9bJjs (am also trying to arrange my pantry and laundry room and the closet under the stairs...and set up a place for yoga) Quote
TechWife Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I can see how that might work.I use this for my Cricut - the machine sits on the pull out shelf. There is plenty of work space with the sides extended. I store my vinyl, mats, etc. in the drawers. Quote

Or pull it out and put it on the top? If it could stay on the shelf while cutting, and then the top could be used for weeding, placing vinyl on the mat, etc that would be neat. I think if I put it in the school/game room, your cart would be a good idea. If I put it in the bedroom or downstairs the cabinet I linked would be better, to hide things. I like using it in the bedroom but don't want to have the look of a craft station in my bedroom. Edited January 29, 2022 by ktgrok Quote
Carrie12345 Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 For my Silhouette, I liked my L-shaped desk with the L hangin out, not on a wall. I think I’d find a desk that folds out to an L ideal. No worrying about back distance when cutting, and space saving when not in use. Quote

I think your idea about matching the style of the cart to the room is a good one. I’m able to push mine into a large closet when I’m not using it, so I didn’t have to think about that. Quote
popmom Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Sorry if this is hijacking, but I’ve always wondered…what do y’all do with a Cricut? I’m clueless. What am I missing? Quote

What am I missing? labels, wall signs, shirts, mugs, window clings, greeting cards, paper art, throw pillow covers... 1 Quote

KungFuPanda Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 I say put it where you enjoy working with it then store it in a way that looks right in the room. Quote

I'm quite curious now. you buy blank mugs and then add on a vinyl logo/picture/whatever. or you can use special ink and put in a heat press they also sell, that permanently transfers the ink. You can cut sheets of the special ink with the machine. But a lot of people just use vinyl - the permanent is not dishwasher safe for long term use, but fine for hand washing. The vinyl you can cut comes in permanent, removable, and iron on. Edited January 29, 2022 by ktgrok Quote

Ok, another dumb question - if you pull the shelf out can you then open the lid of the cricut to start cutting without lifting the table part of the cart? Or do you need to lift that middle part of the top/table thing, in order to open the lid of the cricut and cut? I was about to hit "buy" on this, then saw an image on the website where they had the table part up to open the lid. I don't want that - the whole advantage to this cart for me would be being able to have my cutting mat/ruler/tools on the top and the cricut on the pull out shelf. Quote

I do not open the table to lift the lid on my machine. I just pull the tray out and use it from there. I have a maker and it works great! I use the top for cutting, etc. just like you’re planning to do. Would it help if I post a picture? Edited January 29, 2022 by TechWife 1 Quote

DH is heading out now to see if he can grab one. It’s listed as low stock so we will see. Edited January 30, 2022 by ktgrok 1 Quote
ktgrok Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 Oh, and when browsing for craft room storage ideas, I started cracking up at pinterest - in the midst of all the craft room ideas is a "how to make tartar sauce" pin. One of these things is not like the other.... 1 Quote
ktgrok Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 DH got the one from mIchaels! I had some rewards money for there but mostly went with that one because it is a full 24 inches depth, vs the Sauder one that was only 18 inches deep. My cutting mat won't even fit on that. 1 Quote
