ScoutTN Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 I’ve done my regular stuff, plus the Wordle and some emails. Headed out to tutor. Have a great day! Ready, go! 3 Quote
mom31257 Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 (edited) Thank you for starting the thread, @ScoutTN! I've had a bit of a busy morning. I saw dh off to work, and I was getting ready for my classes. Dd called me on her way home from work. She was telling me how she thinks the hospital system in this country is about to collapse. Her floor has 12 patients waiting to go to rehab or nursing homes. They were short a nurse last night and only had 1 CNA for 28 patients. They just can't get to everything that needs to be done. She said they had to start an insulin drip in the ER waiting room last night. So the floor is becoming a nursing home, the ER is the floor, and the waiting room is the ER. They are begging them to pick up extra shifts, but she is so tired from working 3 shifts in a row, that she won't pick up an extra one. She is afraid she will make mistakes and hurt someone or lose her license. She said medicine has helped the boomer generation live longer but not healthier or a better quality of life. I hate for her to be facing such stuff at such a young age. I also had a chat with Zoom that I think helped fix a problem I was having with it. And I've had two of my classes and a phone call from my private student's dad. On to the rest of the day! I have another class about to start! Hope everyone is having a great day! At some point, tell her I completely disagree with that statement as a tail end boomer. I visited Bellingrath Gardens in very south Alabama a few years ago and went om the house tour. The woman had RA and was stuck in bed, with occasional outings to balcony with wheelchair. She died suddenly at 64, Today, while RA patients are still likely to die about 10 years earlier than others, that has been changing dramatically- most RA patients who have had and continue to have treatments are living nearly as long as other people in their socio-economic, and education level wise. Flannery O'Conner had Lupus. She died at 39 and she died in 1964, before we had . Lupus used to be a death sentence, basically. It no longer is for most lupus patients. I have been living with it for 40 years this year most likely. There are lupus patients who are now living to 80 and older' The first research into what is an autoimmune disease only was published in 1957. We have had huge advances in medications for autoimmune diseases since then. I know that deaths from heart disease have plummeted but one thing that happens after heart attacks that are survived is that they cause depression- and unfortunately, lots of providers don't talk about this and do not help those patients. Many cancers are now surivable compared to what was true when I was a child. And the giant improvements in technology have made lives for disabled and chronically or even acutely ill people so much better. 3 Quote
mom31257 Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 @TravelingChris, that is good to hear! Dd is on a cardiac floor and has many much older and confused patients, so I think she is seeing a different side of it. And of course, being young, she hasn't seen how things were many years ago. It will encourage her to know that! 3 Quote

SKL Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Howdie! Glad it's a "snow day" from school - wish I could take off work too! I slept in very late with no guilt, but I have some things I need to address for clients. I rescheduled my kid's afternoon health appointment, but we still have dental appointments this evening. I may have mentioned that my car is stuck at the end of my driveway. At some point I will need to go out there, clean it off, and dig it out. I hope our plow guy comes and does his magic at some point. Got the kids' Q2 and midterm grades. No huge surprises, but some small ones - both good and not. But hey, we're passing (honor roll actually), so in the grand scheme of things, we're good. Moving on. I didn't do all my morning things yet, so I still have to do my yoga, reading, etc. I should get on those shortly, followed by lots of client work. Just hope I can get through this day without a lot of work stress / drama. I have several small projects that stress me out because I don't really know how to do them. I will have to train myself and hope I don't miss anything important. So I need my brain to be firing on all cylinders ... though my body wants to go back to bed. 😕 4 Quote
DawnM Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 I have picked up and vacuumed (and even moved furniture) in the baby's room and our room, and I have done 2 loads of laundry. And I have done a load of dishes and been calling parents..... 3 Quote
TravelingChris Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Got the x ray. Doctor will call me with the results and hopefully give me an estimate for time of healing. Fractured ribs almost always have no treatment except not doing activities to cause worse damage and maybe it is a dislocated rib, instead of broken but not sure what they do then. Ate lunch and took my meds. Another thing I have to do is fill up my medicine box for the entire week. But first the call to the nurse advocate about the hospital billing issues. 2 Quote
TravelingChris Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Called the Health Advocate and they are sending me forms to fill out to talk w/ my insurance companies and also that will give me an address to send the Tricare EOB. I did give them the phone number to the Hospital billing office too. Once they receive back the papers, they will be assigning a claims specialist to my case/ Boy, am I happy that my husband's company offers this service. Now to fill up med box. Get recipe for stuffed cabbages Look up and also call pediatricians 1 Quote
mom31257 Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 @TravelingChris, I'm so sorry about your rib! I pray you heal quickly! My dad fractured a couple when he fell sitting down in his chair. They said his radiation weakened the bones. I finished all 5 of my classes. I had such a busy morning I forgot to take my reflux medicine. I'll take it soon. I paid a bill and updated my checking records. 2 Quote

SKL Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 The plow guy came, yay! I had to run up and down the stairs putting on clothes and getting my car keys so I could move my car out of the way. I just drove around the block for a while and came back. Yet I feel like I've accomplished something great. LOL! It's past 5pm so I am past the time when clients usually bug me ... though most of my clients are in the next time zone, they usually don't bug me after my 5pm. I still want to send out some more work though. Just noticed the snow drifts are up to the height of the mailboxes. The mail truck is out there right now. Kinda glad I'm not a mail carrier. And my pup is barking ... again. He doesn't like all the ways the snow changes human behavior. He loves playing in it, just isn't a fan of shovels, plows, snow blowers, stuck vehicles, etc.... 3 Quote
SKL Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Oh also I finished my "yoga etc." routine and some reading. I am hoping to do yoga again later, because I'm so stiff. I have pains in various places that make it hard to do some of the moves. Would you believe I fell on my knee again yesterday? Not sure I'll ever have my knees back. 😛 3 Quote
mom31257 Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 @SKL, so glad you got your car out. I think you might should consider investing in some knee pads. 😉 It is sunny and got to 58 today, so I walked outside. Okay, walking inside isn't as much of a workout. I guess it is the slowing down to go around more corners. But walking inside is still better than sitting all day! 2 Quote

I don't think I've seen anything for several days. Praying all is well! 2 Quote
