I just joined Planet Fitness and am enjoying it so far. I am 46 years old and lead a pretty sedentary lifestyle. I have a desk job so I’m definitely not moving as much as I should. My goals are to move more, build strength, and improve flexibility. I would also like to lose weight, but I know that weight loss happens in the kitchen rather than the gym.

My first couple of times at the gym I just did cardio and tried a few machines. I have pretty much zero gym experience, so I tried the 30 minute circuit yesterday and loved it. From reading online, I know that the 30 minute circuit isn’t the very best thing I could be doing, but I think it will help me to get started and feel more comfortable. It’s tucked away in the corner and I don’t have to think about what comes next.

My dh suggested I track my workouts. I have an iPhone and Apple Watch, so I can track my cardio workouts easily. But he said I should write the name of the machine down, how much weight, how many reps, etc. Is there an app or method I could use to do this? I really don’t want to carry a notebook around with me. I do think the info will be helpful as I move away from the circuit training and into creating my own workout. Anyone have thoughts?

I’m excited about working out and I’m actually enjoying it (somewhat - lol). Any tips, thoughts, apps, websites you could share that have been helpful to you would be appreciated!!

I do it in the notes app on my iPhone, just note down what I have done as I go in t the gym: weight, reps, etc. Then the next time I can look back and see where to start if I’ve forgotten. I always have my phone with me at the gym because I listen to audiobooks as I work out. I had a notebook but it was a pain, extra stuff to keep up with.

let’s: I make the title of each note “workout, day/month/year”

I’m sure there are actual dedicated apps for this but i haven’t bothered to look for one.
