happi duck Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Wordle is a website with one word guessing puzzle a day. It's fun! https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/ 10 7 Quote
Toocrazy!! Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I’ve been playing it the last few weeks. Super fun. And takes just the right amount of time. 1 Quote
marbel Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 (edited) Love it. It does challenge me to be more flexible in my thinking. Edited January 16, 2022 by marbel 1 Quote
Annie G Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I’m enjoying it, especially the one word a day. No opportunity for me to play too long when I should be doing other things. Plus it’s helping me focus because I only have a few guesses. 4 Quote
alisoncooks Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Well, that was fun! Adding it to me list of time wasters. 1 3 Quote
AbcdeDooDah Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Just tried it . Got it in 5! Thanks! 3 Quote
historically accurate Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I've really enjoyed it for a couple of weeks. Quote
catz Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Yes! All 3 of us here have been doing it daily. It's fun and it always leads to good strategy discussions afterwards. 🙂 Quote
AmandaVT Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Anyone want to chat strategy? I have been starting with wheel of fortune type words - rusty, arise, roast. Today's took me a bit - I was walking around the house sounding out weird non-words for way too long. 🤣 1 2 Quote
Kassia Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 (edited) I was resisting but had to it. Super fun and got it in four tries. Just shared with DH and dd. 🙂 Edited January 16, 2022 by Kassia 1 Quote
regentrude Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Love it. Doing it first thing every morning. 2 Quote

I am starting with a word that contains the two most common vowels (A, E) and three of the most common consonants (which are S, T, N, and R). That maximizes the probability of having some of the correct letters. Unless I get the two vowels correct in the first try, I use a second word that samples two of the remaining vowels (because it is extremely likely that a 5 letter word has more than one vowel) and some untried consonants. As of try #3, I start thinking what the word can be based on the info gained from the first two tries. 10 Quote
wintermom Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I misunderstood the directions and thought they were clues to my first guess. I still got it in 3 tries. Lucky guess. 2 Quote
Nart Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I have been playing for two weeks and love it! A word three or for days ago was really tough but most are solvable in a few minutes. I love doing it first thing in the morning. 1 Quote
chocolate-chip chooky Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Ooh, I love it! Thank you 🙂 Quote
Tree Frog Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Our family has been cheering each other on. I'm the slowest of the bunch, but got today's before anyone else because I was up until 12:10. 😃 1 Quote

So folks in the US can do "tomorrow's" word today between 4pm and 7pm depending on time zone 🙂 2 Quote
TravelingChris Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Just looked at this. Not a game I could play without a lot of work,. Dh likes Wheel of Fortune and I don't. I have a really hard time with most kind of word puzzles. But I love Quiz Planet because that is the kind of game I can do very well. I am much better at knowledge games than dh but forget about words/ I can only do very easy crossword puxzzles or help dh with knowledge for crossword puzzles- like who wrote something or name of some dish or ? Quote
happi duck Posted January 16, 2022 Author Posted January 16, 2022 Mastermind! I was trying to think of that when trying to describe Wordle to dh. I really like that everyone gets the same single puzzle each day. It does generate great conversations! 6 Quote

I'm going to pretend I didn't read this. I just started wordle today and liked it a lot. But I am recovering from a concussion so I shouldn't be playing. I'm also recovering from major reconstructive foot surgery so I'm stuck on the couch and wordle is perfect for me other than the stupid concussion. Hope your arm feels better soon. I told DH about it yesterday - looks so painful. 😞 3 Quote

Nope. Going to limit myself to the original because self regulation isn’t a strength of mine. But you’re on injured reserve, so play away! 4 Quote
Wheres Toto Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I started playing yesterday after a friend posted about it on Facebook. I like word games. I follow a plan similar to regentrude, picking the most common letters. I got yesterdays in 4, today's in 3. Quote
Ausmumof3 Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I’m an addict. Lucky you only get one word a day. My most common guesses is four, have one in two (pure fluke) and a couple I never got (too many possible words with the spelling pattern). Quote

stephanier.1765 Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 I'm tempted to steal some letter tiles from other games and shifting them around before attempting a guess. It was hard to keep in mind where I knew the letters had to fit. My brain needs something to better help it visualize. I did get it but it took 5 tries. 1 Quote

So I think it releases around midnight local time. 🤷 2 Quote

VickiMNE Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 I've been playing for two weeks now. A little daily treat for this word-game lover! Best strategy is to nail down the vowels, remember that Y is also sometimes a vowel, and that letters can be repeated. 2 Quote

Laura Corin Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 I am so bad at this. After two words I simply couldn't think of a third that would fit the criteria. 1 Quote
Ailaena Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 Last week, I learned the hard way that words can have a repeated letter 🙄😔 3 3 Quote
CTVKath Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 LOLOLOL. Ok so I just played my first game and failed miserably! I mis-read the instructions. Had a bunch of gold letters and thought they were in the correct spot and ended up with no way to make a word. Ooops! It is the greens that are in the correct spot! 2 1 Quote
Grace Hopper Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 Love it! Strategy wise I have tried starting with vowel-heavy words like adieu, audio, adios. Tomorrow I’ll have to try a one of those Wheel of Fortune words mentioned above. 1 Quote

I've found it worthwhile to enter a word using the correct letters in incorrect spaces just for the sake of testing out other letters that may be in the word. Sometimes when you get just one more letter, the brain cooperates and gives you the word. 6 Quote

Practice with the shuffling and getting-unstuck moves of Mastermind *really* help with wordle. 4 Quote
