heartlikealion Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 I always used Paypal but some friends/family use Venmo. So I had a little bit of money in Venmo and I was trying to buy something from a friend so I tried to send the balance to her (I had enough to cover the full amount) and the dang app sent the money from my bank instead. I googled and read the FAQs and it says if you have enough money it will default to the balance. Umm no. It clearly did not do that. And I see no where to click "use balance" like you see on Paypal. What the heck? Why isn't it user friendly? And Paypal owns Venmo. This is so stupid to me. Help so I don't do this again. Thank you. Quote
Ailaena Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 I’m pretty sure this has to do with verifying your identity. They changed the rules recently so that until you are verified, all money comes from your payment source instead of any balance. Don’t ask me why, I have no idea, sorry 😞 1 Quote

Ailaena Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 Found it ”...but you cannot use the money in your account to make payments on Venmo until you verify your identity.” https://help.venmo.com/hc/en-us/articles/217042588-Money-in-Your-Venmo-Account-and-Venmo-Balance Quote
Ailaena Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 There’s an “identity verification” button in the settings menu - does that work? we chose not to, we just dump the money in the bank and pay out of the bank because we don’t care Quote

It says this should only take a few minutes. So far when I pretend to send money it doesn't ask how I want to send it. It literally just says "$X" and "Pay now" Ugh. I hope more buttons appear. Quote

The alternative is paying a small fee, which I have done once or twice but prefer not to. My next check isn't pending yet (pay day varies) so I was trying not to use the bank balance more than necessary. Quote
heartlikealion Posted January 6, 2022 Author Posted January 6, 2022 I was able to update it for in-store purchases but I'm wondering if there's no way to use the balance to send to friends? Quote
Ailaena Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 My neighbor says the option to use Venmo balance pops up for her when she goes to pay friends, sorry I can’t help more 1 Quote

I’ll try the app again tomorrow. Maybe it will update? Or maybe I can find someone to show me their app settings if theirs is set up Quote
