Grace Hopper Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Just how bad is it? What are your expectations for the next month? Is Delta still active up there or is mostly Omicron causing this? I understand that opinions (perhaps vs facts) will be shared. I’m just curious to know if the TikTok videos I’ve seen are accurate, and whether or not your hospitals are as distressed as they were during past peaks. Asking NYers specifically because they are first hand “witnesses.” Quote
freesia Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 The hospitals in and around NYC are not distressed as far as I’ve seen and heard. The ones in more rural less vaccinated areas are. Covidactnow had NYC hospital use at medium ( yellow) and Westchester Co. at green. I am pretty sure it’s Omnicron because our numbers went straight up and being really good. I expect to know a lot of folks who get Covid. I don’t know any right now, but know folks who’ve gotten together lately and will not be surprised if after Christmas we know a number of people who get it. Just my view from close to the city. 1 Quote
Wheres Toto Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 I'm about 30 miles from NYC, across the river in NJ. I agree with freesia, I see no signs that the hospitals in NYC are distressed at this point. Their percent positivity is lower than ours and we're not seeing overwhelm here yet either. Pretty strong steps are being taken in the area to try and avoid overwhelm. Strict rules regarding masks, vaccination, etc are being followed according to people I know/talk to (I know quite a few people who are in the city on a daily basis). 1 1 Quote
Tanaqui Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 I've been seeing more people wearing masks outside again - not just when entering a store or getting off a bus, but when they're walking down the sidewalk. I went to pick up McDonald's yesterday and they'd closed their dining room again, pick-up and take-out only. The drugstore is jampacked with people getting vaccinated against covid and presumably flu as well. And, the most telling sign, when I call the doctor's office I leave a message and they call me back from a receptionist's home number now, they're not in-office. However, I haven't heard more ambulance sirens or anything like that, and we are RIGHT near a hospital. 1 1 Quote
