I too am looking for some info on virtual counseling.  For a friend.  No seriously.   🙂

Specifically Steve Harley who is Dr. Willard Harley's son. Steve does counseling but I can't find any reviews of him. I showed my  best friend Dr. Harley's books and she and her husband both loved the concept but have a few issues they can't resolve.

Our therapist is only offering virtual counseling right now and it has been a really positive experience. We have only met virtually and it feels like she understands our situation and knows us even though we have never met in person. We started meeting with her because our youngest child became seriously ill with a long term major health concern. I knew we would need help coping with the current crisis, but the counseling has been so much more. We are working on learning and changing different unhealthy patterns in our relationship. No overnight fixes, but a very positive trajectory.

It is super easy to attend - I don’t have to worry about getting there on time, dressing up, etc, and my husband is able to join in even if he is out of town for work. I’m traveling out of state next month and she isn’t licensed in that state, so we won’t meet that week.

I think many counselors are offering virtual appointments now. My son is also working with his counselor virtually, though he has met with her in person once. She is amazing and has really worked with all of us - not marriage counseling, but again, super helpful even though we only “know” her through phone/video.

best wishes!!

Dh works out of town so in-person counseling would be tough. Anyone try virtual marriage counseling? I wonder how effective virtual counseling would be. Anyone with experience?

We did, it was a disaster but not because it was virtual, that part was fine.

I just finished a year and a half of counseling with a therapist I never met in person.  It was great, I would highly recommend teletherapy.  Everything you hate about Zoom is much easier when you are one on one.  (Or I guess two on one?)  Anyway it was super convenient and I can’t imagine doing in person therapy again.

Been doing zoom and telephone therapy for nearly a year. I think it is best to seek a licensed therapist that has experience with your issues. I checked credentials very carefully, and also read up on various approaches/models before seeking out the therapist. (Personally, I find trauma-informed/Gottman/attachment theory to be a stellar combo).

I prefer a therapist who is not a "celebrity" but someone living here.
