Good morning!

I was awake for over 2 hours during the night but went back to sleep. I didn't get up with dh and he had an eye appointment. He just called me, and woke me up, saying he has a cataract that needs surgery. Dh cannot stand anything near his eye. I don't know how we are going to get drops in.

  • medicine
  • devotion and write scripture
  • coffee
  • meals (leftover soup and chili)
  • pay bills/update checking
  • file FAFSA
  • tidy house
  • box the gifts we are taking to Ohio along with gift bags/wrapping materials
  • read rules and watch videos about new games
  • play some of the games

Good morning!

Praying for your DH/his cataract surgery, Amy.

My list today is flexible except for item #1 -- get to the post office asap.  In addition to that:
....coffee
....POST OFFICE!
....DH wanted something else at Walmart....can't recall what (Oh, belt for oldest, lego for middle if they have it, as it was $5 cheaper at WM than at Target), so stop and get that (it's next door to the PO)
...really truly finish laundry so I can enjoy the rest of the week
....deep clean/declutter/organize my sewing room -- actually get rid of the stuff I need to get rid of
....decide who/where to donate my fabric scraps -- I have organized them 10,000 different ways over the years, and the simple plain truth is -- I am not a scrap quilter at all. I don't do enough applique to need small pieces on hand, and I just don't ever go digging in my scraps for things. I think once I have, for a specific project by a designer that I learned I don't like (the end result is awesome; the method was a pain in the rear, and I'll likely never repeat one of her patterns).  So, I really need to get them out of my sewing room as they are just taking up space I don't have.

I don't know what else. DH said maybe talk to the boys about getting our Covid boosters, we'll schedule them for Weds. Tonight we watch whichever last Spider Man before the movie tomorrow. I'm hoping we skip over to the newest Venom vs. rewatching an old one again. I'm so spider-man'ed out.

Oh! Need to also go over the Christmas recipes/menus for ours and extended family get-together and make the grocery list, meal plan for the rest of the week, go to the store. Today would be good while I'm out/about, and before the crowds get even more insane/shelves get even more bare.

Drinking coffee, then will get a move on.

Extra care on feet-done

Whiten my teeth

Read a Christmas story

Listen to Christmas music-done, but will do more

Realized that most of the list for Sis-in-law's Christmas dinner plan is fresh veggies, so those will need to be bought closer to time. Dang/good; saves me a grocery trip (I can easily meal plan for us w/what we have here).

That sorted, I'm heading out to the PO and stop at WM for belt for Oldest, Lego for DH/Middle DS if they have it, and feels like something else I was forgetting, but not sure.

  • mac and cheese for dinner, salad for me

Have a great day!

Good morning!

Dh is grouchy. Sigh. Trying not to let him derail my nice morning. I was up earlyish waiting for a friend to arrive with her dog. (We are dogsitting for a couple days.)

I’ve had coffee, bacon, and raspberries. Chatted with Dd about today’s plans. Currently making lists.

I still have lots to do. Not how I like the week before Christmas to be, but here it is. Happy to have two weeks off from work and to be healthy!

The package is mailed, and it says it it expected to arrive on Thursday....that would be lovely, if so!

Successfully bought a belt for Oldest; he's so thin, I had to go to the teen section. It's narrow like a dress built, but is the same length/width as those in the men's dept so should be okay. I hope.

DH is leaving shortly for some work stuff that popped up, so I'll do electronic stuff until then, eat, etc. and then head up to declutter once he's gone.

Making progress on the sewing room. Trying to decide which outdated books to hold onto to sell later (maybe?) and which to just toss/donate somewhere. (hmm, outdated is not the right word exactly; stuff we are done with, still valid, though, not like ancient science texts where the science has since passed it by).

And need somewhere to store it "until" -- is that worth the (likely small) amount of $$ we might would get??  I hate moving it out of my closet, into the garage to sit and become DH's problem; I want it done with.

Refilling my water and getting back to it (I did stop and eat lunch/watch a recorded episode of Project Runway).

@readinmom prayers for your mom's surgery

@mom31257so sorry about your dh's cataract

I am sick. Blah. I've been sleeping more than I've been awake.

Youngest helped me decorate the green tree

I'm working slowly on my new pink tree

Desperately need to shower and wash my hair

The doctor's office called to switch an appointment time and his receptionist was like oh my gosh you sound so sick and I confessed I was.  Hope I'm better by Christmas Eve.

Going through the ornaments and giving my oldest most of his so that they can be put on his own family tree.

Found a couple that need to be glued back together lol

Not cooking dinner not doing the dishes not cleaning not really doing much of anything

Did a bit of shopping and picked up Dd.

Wrapped our gifts to my mom. Very happy with them and with the fact that I stayed under budget.

Put my casserole, the low-carb one, in the oven to bake.

Need to tidy the house a bit.

Just got update from doctor, and they are going to try some other things as Plan 1 did not work.  I made out the remaining Christmas cards, made menu for Christmas breakfast and dinner, which at this point, may be put off a few days.  Just trying to keep busy here...

Both trees are done.

Not sure if I want to decorate the ombre pink/silver tree.

Glued stuff back together

Youngest is spending the night at a friend's house... we'll see how that goes.

Going to rest a bit, then shower

@readinmom keep us posted if you can, lots and lots of prayers being said

@readinmom, I'm sorry it isn't going as planned. Praying they find alternatives that work just as well. Hugs!

We played Arboretum.  That is a challenging game that requires a lot of strategy. Ds and I really liked it. Dh seemed a little out of it today and thinks it's too much sugar the last few days.

I'm tired from my insomnia last night, but it's too late for a nap. Maybe I can get to sleep a little early.

Adding my prayers as well, readinmom.  That's so hard.

I finished the sewing room declutter, more or less. Or, got to a stopping point for today. The closet is DONE and all of the books, misc, etc., that don't belong there have been relocated, trashed, bagged, donated, etc. as appropriate. Stuff to pass to my mom is neatly stored on one shelf, which makes me happy. My beloved Cherrywood fabrics are all on one shelf where I can see them, and they won't get cat hair. One shelf remains with "stuff to keep for school" that I can relocate at some point, but really I'm very pleased with how much space I gained.

Six trash bags went out of the room. Six.

All surfaces were cleaned as well, and really it's good now. I need to (as always) go through my drawers at some point, but that's a whole day job by itself, so will wait.

The guys decided to watch The Amazing Spider Man 2 before dinner, then we'll eat and then watch Venom: Carnage (or whatever the official title is) after dinner (apparently there is an end-credits scene that pertains to the new movie).  I told them I could not do both and still go to the movie tomorrow, so they are on their own for this one.

I'm going to sit, relax, watch a recorded Grey's Anatomy, and then cook dinner.

Ok, rant here. I'm so mad at people not taking Covid seriously! My dad was supposed to go to my sister's this week to stay and start his new medicine, and now he can't.

She visited her old SS class at church yesterday. She noticed quite a few people out but thought it might be because of the holidays. Her best friend is in the class, but they hadn't talked. Turns out they had their class party at a restaurant Friday night, and by the end of the evening the teacher wasn't feeling well. He told them all the next day he was getting a Covid test. Several people who were at the party still came to class and church and didn't bother to inform her when she came in nor some visitors that came to the class. A lady who sat right next to the guy came over and hugged my sister. All these people know that my sister's husband is quite a bit older and has COPD and diabetes, yet they didn't bother to tell her about the possibility of them being exposed.

Turns out he does have Covid. She really wouldn't know any of this if her best friend wasn't one of the ones who also attended but stayed out and is now sick (and fully vaccinated). She sat right across from the teacher.  So our dad could have come down and not known.

My sister is fully vaccinated, and her husband has had the booster, but we know that isn't a guarantee. Daddy won't go now for 10 days. So that delays him starting his new medicine because he needs to stay with someone, and we're going to Ohio.

Sorry, it's just unbelievable to me that Christian, supposedly pro-life people can be so careless with this.

I am so sorry about this, Amy. Rant away! You are right to be upset.

I have felt the same way for a long time. SO many people who claim to be Christians are behaving with callous disregard for the life and health of others. Selfish beyond belief. I get the exhaustion. I get that we cannot all stay home all the time. But we cannot just live as if covid is no big deal either.

Loving one’s neighbor = get vaccinated, wear a mask, stay home if you have any symptom, get tested when necessary or helpful, communicate promptly and honestly. Nothing onerous or unreasonable.

And many who claim to be Christians have been propagating false information, leading others astray. Another poster said it well in another thread: Teaching against Darwin and evolution has morphed into active hostility towards science in general. We need that science! It is God’s gift in common grace to help us understand the world - including this wretched virus.

Some Christians have led reprehensible governmental actions - like my state legislature which passed a law forbidding businesses (including hospitals and medical facilities!!) For Christians to be blathering on about their rights while not doing basic, easy things to lessen the impact of covid and care for the lives of others is hideously hypocritical.

These people have blood on their hands, imo.

@mom31257Rant away- Thankfully your sister has a friend that is true and told her about all this.

In the county I live in last week alone there were almost 2,000 cases, they have called in the Federal Medical Team to help the hospital staff, and then I see community holiday parties, festivals etc .   All the public schools have announced they are giving the students an extra week off for Christmas break.

After 3 long flights and a long layover, made it to our destination.  Most of our bags didn't arrive with us.  Need to borrow other people's clothes for an event tonight.  But the hotel is nice and we are just so glad to be done with the flights!

I spent a lot of time working on the trip, so I hopefully won't have so much stress.  I do have one client for whom I need to prepare a fat report still.

Off to enjoy a shower!
