Volunteering with AHG, working in children’s ministry in my church, reading - especially The Literary Life podcast reading challenge, pursuing alternative medicine approaches for healthcare for my Hashimoto’s and diabetes 1.5, being outdoors and in nature as much as I can - hoping for another solo camping trip this summer.

Journaling

Training my puppy (now 1 year old) and working toward Canine Good Citizen

Reading weekly and reading challenges

30 Day challenges - I enjoy doing monthly challenges(even though challenges isn't the correct word for it). My challenge for January will be to use the teas I have on hand and not buy any more tea. I have wonderful teas from India, Nepal, and a couple of other countries. I can have a different tea almost every day of the month.

Working toward my walking/hiking and biking goals.

Looking for a way of eating that works for me. This is an ongoing process

Donating blood and platelets.

Do you make up your own challenges or find them somewhere?  I am very interested in this for myself.

Things I will continue doing:

Increasing my independence and self reliance.

Continue facing my fears.  I saw a meme yesterday that said something like "facing your fears takes away their power".  I like that.

Continue homeschooling my teen until she graduates.

Continue intermittent fasting.

Continue to lose weight until I reach my goal (although goal is unknown right now).

Continue/increase self- care.  My WOTY is "rest" and I desperately need to find ways to rest--not just sleep, which is pretty good.  How rest and self -care will look, I don't know.

Continue to improve limiting computer time.

Continue to read!

I make them up as I go along but they are always based on something I need to work on.  For example, if I find myself staying in the house and watching too much TV, the next month's challenge might be "2 hours minimum outdoors". This means for the next 30 days I have to spend a min of 2 hours outside every day.  If I begin to slack on my water intake, the challenge might be to eliminate all beverages other than water (this is difficult as I am addicted to chai. Chai - the nectar of the gods.). If I find I am not attending to self care, the challenge could be to use up products I have on hand (moisturizer, face masks, oil treatments, foot lotion).  I tend toward depression and forget to take care of the basics some times so my challenges might seem a bit mundane, silly, or stupid to some.

I know there are 30 day challenge lists out there. Some are based on physical challenges (squats, planks, wall sits, push ups, etc). I do some of those too. There are also 30 day challenges geared toward the home - cleaning, purging. Eating challenges - no sugar, ketp, no dairy, vegan, etc. I do some of these.

I hope you find some wonderful challenges for yourself.

Accepting that I need more rest than I want.

Be willing to pay for gluten free options rather than making them myself and being disappointed.

Oh my yes!! Sometimes buying GF is worth it, esp if there is a good GF bakery in the area. I have not been able to find a GF mix or flour that I can use to make good/great tasting desserts. I just gave all of my GF cookbooks away out of frustration.

Have you looked at keto recipes? Sometimes I find them to be good. By the time I'm finished tweaking it it's not keto, but things like using cream cheese to get the bread the right consistency makes a huge difference.

Walking in cold weather. It is true that there is no bad weather, only bad clothing and I would add bad attitude of mine. I bundle up like in the arctic and walk in the TX cold but it is what works for me so I am determined to do that.

Work out as a habit every day so it becomes second nature.

Gratitude journal.

Simplify.

Read more variety.

Continue dance class.

Continue Martial arts.

Meditate.

Cook more dishes around the world

Prioritize mental health

Do not read the news in depth, stick to breaking news alerts.

I really like this!    I might be better at sticking with it if I come up with them myself, based on what I really need to work on.    As to the bolded, to me there is no such thing as mundane/silly/stupid!   If it benefits you then it is well worth it and important.   Thank you for sharing with me, it is very helpful and I am definitely going to do at least a few myself in the new year.

Continuing in 2022:

Studying medical Spanish.

Exercising regularly -
-  Cardio on the exercise bike at least 3 days a week.  I have a couple of shows that I only watch when I'm on the bike.
-  Walk outside daily (having a dog makes that a necessity).
-  Do shoulder and hip PT exercises 3 times a week.
-  Add core and other strength training other days.
- stretching daily.

Get regular massages.  Sounds like a luxury but it really is a necessity if I want to have any longevity in my new career.  It is hard on the body (hence the shoulder and hip PT mentioned above.

Menu planning to include healthy lunches and snacks (especially car snacks so I don't eat all the things when I get home because I'm too hungry.)

Reading for pleasure.  I've just started back doing so this month after being so immersed in school.  I really missed it.

Things I will continue doing (I probably should have looked ahead before the Day 19 answer) ....

  • Strive to be positive on myself and my life!  This is a super big struggle for me, but I believe I can do better.
  • Try to be a decent mom, friend, daughter, sister, worker, and community member.
  • Taekwondo.  Hopefully I get my 2nd degree blackbelt in the first half of 2022.
  • Keep organizing, purging, cleaning, maintaining.
  • Enjoying books, music, nature, and my puppy.  (My kids too, when they aren't being sassy!)
  • Laugh!

We were away this week, so although I read the prompts I didn't post.  Have decided to do so now so that I can come back and reflect.

Continuing in 2022:

Weekly time set aside for crafting.  I"m a bit of perfectionist and would rather not make something if I don't think its 'good enough'.  This quote by Ira Glass has really inspired me:

“All of us who do creative work get into it because you have good taste. There is stuff that you just love. But there is a gap, where for the first couple years you are making stuff, what you are making isn’t so good. It’s really not that great. It’s trying to be good, it has ambition to be good, but it’s not quite that good.

But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, your taste is still killer. And your taste is good enough that you can tell that what you’re making is kind of a disappointment to you, like you can tell it is still sort of crappy. A lot of people never get past that phase, a lot of people at that point, they quit.”

It’s only by going through a volume of work that you are going to actually catch up and close that gap, and the work you are making will be as good as your ambitions.”
