I appear to be the queen of medical procedures not going as planned.  Pelvic floor surgery made things worse.  2nd surgery did not improve.  Ankle surgery  sequelae included wound infections, completely collapsed arch, loss of function (poor balance on that side, need orthotics full time, even just to walk around my house) and I'm still having Charlie horses 7 years later.  Skin cancer surgery on my face left me more scarred than expected due to reactions to the sutures.

While this year hasn't been the greatest, health-wise, I'm actually experiencing successful treatment.

In the past year, my cataract was worsening quickly.  I became legally blind in that eye even with glasses - not a good thing when the doctors rely on your ultrasound eyes to find things.  I was so afraid to have cataract surgery due to my past reactions, but that was a resounding success.  Had that done in September and the vision is wonderful.  Should have had the other eye done, but I wanted to see how I would recover.   Now I have to figure out when I can fit in another week off work.

2 years ago, in ultrasound school, we found a large ovarian cyst - much larger than appropriate for a post-menopausal woman.  The doctor and I debated on whether we should take it out or wait and see since I was asymptomatic.  Well, Covid happened so I didn't get around to an ultrasound until this fall.  Lo and behold, the cyst grew (not something that should happen at my age.)  So the decision was made that it had to come out.  Plus it was no longer asymptomatic, but I had some dull annoying pain.  Surgery was yesterday afternoon and it actually went well.  They were able to take it laparoscopically so no open surgery.  It turned out to be the simple cyst they expected from the ultrasounds.  No perforated bowel.  And I feel good today without the heavy pain meds.   So, I can go back to work in 2 weeks at my current PRN job and start my second one in January as expected.

Now I just need to heal this stupid stress fracture in my food and pray that the DEXA scan doesn't show premature osteoporosis.

That's 2 in a row that went well!

Off to take a nap!
