blue plaid Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 My son who is taking German 3 this year got an email saying all course work needs to be completed by mid-May and that the program is closing permanently at that time. I am sad -- the instruction has been great and he has done well and learned a lot, and I was planning on him continuing through German 5 and starting my youngest in the program next year. So just a heads-up to anyone planning on using this. It is a bit strange since they just redid their German 1 and 2 courses -- I believe this is the first full year of the new German 2. I am hoping that it may work for him to continue German at our community college but while upper level classes are offered, I don't know if there is enough enrollment interest that they actually happen. So if anyone can recommend any upper level online alternatives that would be good to know! Thanks. 1 1 Quote
Sebastian (a lady) Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Oh, that's unfortunate. My kids did a bit with them, but were trying to juggle Latin at the same time, which ended up being too much. One of our friends did all the way through AP German with them. Quote
AEC Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 That's unfortunate, but I'm not 100% shocked. Our older did 1-4, the younger 1-3. One and two where honestly easier for us because they sent home the answers so a parent could at least kinda help. From 3 on you had to send in the packets and over time it seems like the grad-students charged with grading and doing weekly chats with students have been less and less engaged. OTOH.....it worked pretty well for us. The kiddo who did through German 4 just took a placement test at his college, now almost 3 years after his last class with OSU, and scored into the second-half of year 2 of the college's sequence. Which was enough for him to test out of the language requirement, so he was happy. It's too bad to see a long-standing online option open to homeschoolers go away. 1 Quote
