MEmama Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 We are looking to buy a board game that can be played together by a 5 and 9 year old. DH is looking at Enchanted Forest and Zoo Regatta, but really we have no idea. DS was into very specific transportation and strategy type games at that age that probably wouldn’t interest these kids, plus it’s been a long time. Any ideas? Thanks! 🙂 🎄 Quote
Mrs Tiggywinkle Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 My 6-year-old LOVES Enchanted Forrest. Anything by Peaceable Kingdom press has been a hit at those ages. 1 Quote

Ailaena Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Mole rats in space, The fox and the forest, outfoxed, Mouse Trap, set, battleship, operation, I hate ticket to ride but everybody else loves it, gamewright games, shadows in the forest, forbidden sky, and I wish I was sitting in front of my game shelves right now 1 1 Quote

We don’t know the kids at all which always makes it more challenging, but this is a terrific list! Quote
wathe Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Seconding "Mole Rats in Space" Co-operative enough strategy to be fun for the 9 year old. No reading required. 1 Quote

I guess it depends on the kids, though. Quote
kristin0713 Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I think this really depends on the abilities of the 5yo. Quote

BlsdMama Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Queen Domino and Labyrinth come to mind. My kids couldn’t play TTR at five due to reading and finding cities was frustrating. Outfoxed Sushi Go and Sleeping Queens are wildly popular here. 1 1 Quote
MEmama Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 We went with Outfoxed. It looks so cute! 🙂 Thanks for all the suggestions! 3 Quote

lovinmyboys Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 You picked a good one! My 9yr old is the youngest and hasn’t chosen Outfoxed in awhile, but I think he would still love to play with a 5yr old. It really is the best game. 1 Quote

MEmama Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 Well darn, Amazon says the game in stock, but when DH tried to order it he got a message saying they will notify him when it’s available for shipping. That doesn’t sound promising. I wonder if it’s in the warehouse in Illinois that just got hit by the tornado? Off to look for different sellers. I’ve been warning him since October to order gifts early… Quote
whitestavern Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Not board games per se but my kids enjoyed Blokus and SET a lot at those ages. 2 Quote
BlsdMama Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Rainbow Resource has it but not free shipping! Need other stuff? 1 Quote

catz Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 My kids are almost 4 years apart and we got a lot of mileage out of this game (Gobblet) for many years. I still like it, quick to learn and play, fun for all ages. It says 7+ but my daughter was definitely younger when we got it https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Orange-Gobblet-Board-Game/dp/B00006L50P/ref=asc_df_B00006L50P/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312029442621&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4880948007478144310&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019541&hvtargid=pla-434247297340&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=59547955902&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=312029442621&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4880948007478144310&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019541&hvtargid=pla-434247297340 1 Quote

BusyMom5 Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Long Cow is a fun game both could play! It even moos 🐮 Quote
Harriet Vane Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Sushi-go is a card game but definitely playable by all ages. Other board games we like are Sequence or Azul. A nifty alternative is Dimensions. Quote

We played it many times with a 7yo girl who loves it. (She is 10yo now and still loves it.) Quote

My youngest played it as collecting his favorites and we kept points for us older folk, but he played and collected regardless of points. 1 Quote
