Janeway Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 My daughter is only 10 yrs old, but I want to buy her a bed for Christmas, but one that will last through her years, not something that she will want to replace in two years. She has mentioned a loft bed or a bunk bed, but, she has had a bunk bed before and grew tired of climbing to the top. My experience with loft beds and the other kids is the same thing, they grew tired of climbing to their beds. I considered a storage bed, so she has drawers underneath, but wonder if that would be "too babyish" when she is a teen, like 17, 18 yrs old. I am thinking maybe just a regular twin bed. All we know is she wants it all white and she does not want a day bed. I am thinking not a full or queen sized bed because we recently got rid of a queen because no one wanted a bed taking up so much space in their rooms. Her room is not huge. I also considered a canopy bed, but she has a ceiling fan in her room and is it not that big of a room. What do you think would be good that would last through all the teen years and college years? strawberries Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Both of my teens have regular twin beds with bookshelf headboards. Quote
SKL Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 I was going to suggest a bookcase bed also. I don't think having drawers underneath would be a bad idea either. My teens are still using the separated bunkbed that I bought when they were 5 or 6. It's honey colored, as is most of their other bedroom furniture. I have no intentions of replacing their furniture. One of my kids did say she wanted a full size bed, but then she changed her mind after she realized she liked having floor space. I guess all her friends have bigger beds, so she thought she should too. Quote
Spryte Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 DD10 here has the Ikea Hemnes Day Bed in white. I don’t prefer Ikea normally, but I do like their Hemnes line very much. We replaced the Ikea mattresses with better ones, but it can still be pulled out and just looks like a big bed. DD keeps it as a twin, because she likes the look. It isn’t a traditional day bed, rather pulls out to make one larger bed. And it has drawers. …So, really, you might not like it! Day bed (sort of) and drawers are both on your maybe-not list. 😊 But DD loves it. We actually had it in our guest room prior to DD stealing it for her room. 2 1 Quote
MooCow Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 We went with a full size bed. She had a good bookcase already. 1 Quote
SounderChick Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 We have one loft bed that kid is a monkey but also really uses the workspace underneath. The other is happy with a normal twin bed with head & foot board. Quote
fairfarmhand Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 My 17 yo loves her storage bed with drawers under it and bookcase headboard. I think even my 19 yo would like one too. 2 Quote
Starr Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 My dd loved having drawers under her bed. The book shelf headboard sounds nice too. Quote
Dmmetler Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 My teen has a bed with storage drawers and a bookcase headboard. Quote
Kareni Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 My daughter had the same bed after moving out of her crib through adulthood. We still own it. It is honey oak and has three drawers that run along the long side. It does not have a headboard or footboard instead it has a lip that is a few inches high that keeps the mattress in place. I hope you'll find something that makes you both happy. Regards, Kareni Quote
KungFuPanda Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I’d go with full sized. It’s only a 16” difference. Quote

She actually has the Hemnes Dresser and a Hemnes nightstand, and then her desk is from Wayfair. Quote
