Book recommendation for teen who loves D&D

My mom always buys each child a book for Christmas. She's asking me for recommendations and I'm drawing a blank for ds16. He likes RPGs; are there any non-fiction books you might recommend? Fiction recommendations are OK too.

Not directly related to D&D - but might I recommend Pratchett?  I have two that regularly play, and one of them is very "tolkein/pratchett" etc.
the other is more into anime (which is merely a form, not a true genre.) - and die that are used in D&D (he's given them as gifts too. I watch them drool over them.) and figurines that go with their characters.
