I've been on here so irregularly lately that I can't remember what we've discussed and what we haven't.

My great niece is 10 yo and spending Christmas with us this year. However, I have no idea what 10 yo girls are into these days. I'm not sure I ever knew having been the mom of 3 boys. I'd like to do a book, for sure. I'm going to be that book aunt and grandmother but I'd also like to get her a little something else to go along with it. So parents of girls, would you mind sharing your ideas for books and other things? I don't know her well enough to know her specific likes and dislikes.

Thanks all!

Drawing, art supplies seem very popular with the 10 yr old girls I know. I bought my 10 yr old a how-to drawing book, a blank sketchbook and a nice set of pencils and she's spent lots of time drawing. Books - any way of finding out what she's into? My daughter likes fantasy while neighbour girl enjoys historical books. Wings of Fire is very popular (and a long series); there's a gorgeous graphic novel of Anne of Green Gables which might be a nice way to get into the classics.

My daughter got a loom knitting kit for her 10th birthday in August and she's been knitting ever since.

(She used youtube videos to help with things that the kit didn't quite explain)

I saw a similar Frozen kit at Michaels that looks fun too.

Oooh, that graphic novel looks awesome. As a child who loved to read, I would have been fascinated by this book at her age.

This. All of this.

I have a 10 yr old DD. Mine is enamored with Wings of Fire, but beware—they can be on the violent side, and her BFF hates those books with a passion. They can be tricky, and we’ve opted not to give them as gifts now. My DD’s other love is historical fiction, bonus if there’s time traveling. She also loves Roald Dahl and most fantasy books. How to Draw books—any of them—and art supplies are another favorite. Good markers or pens.
