JudoMom
I'm trying to decide between 3 books on my shelf. We will read all 3 eventually, but I'd like to do the most engaging or fun book first (we finished Johnny Tremain before Thanksgiving, and while everyone enjoyed it, it was a pretty heavy book). Right now we're doing Christmas reading. Which would you read first?
periwinkle
all 3 of these books! But if you are looking for the most engaging, I'll have to cast my vote for From the Mixed-up Files. Beware that it does have the children protagonists running away from home; we had no problem with that plot device, but I thought it was worth disclosing. missplacedalaskan
It has been a LONG time since I've read Mrs. Basil E. F. But we all loved 21 Balloons. The kids asked me to read that book and we had a lot of fun with it. It was a fun book to talk about and imagine we were "there".
WTMindy
I vote all 3!!! Those are all great and we have done them all as read-alouds, but I voted for Mixed Up Files. My kids loved that one.
elegantlion
I voted Mixed up Files as well. I love that book and always think of clothes in a violin case when I see the title.
wenn
I forgot about Mixed Up Files, I think we'll do that next. My boys really liked Sign of the Beaver.
Colleen
I'm surprised From the Mixed-Up Files... is ahead in the voting. I loved that book as a child but given the ages of your children, I'd go for The Sign of the Beaver in a heartbeat.
PariSarah
--just the thing if your last read-aloud was too deep!
Michelle T
Those were all on my read aloud list this year. All were very enjoyable, but I think DS liked Sign of the Beaver the best. Back when I was a kid, 21 Balloons was one of my favorite books. Michelle T
HRAAB
I voted for 21 Balloons, but Mixed-up Files was a close, close second. You really couldn't go wrong with any of them. Janet
