thewellerman Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 We moved over the summer, and our new house is really tall. We don't have a long enough ladder to reach the top, and the roof has a steep enough pitch that we'd like to avoid having to climb all the way up. Any tips and tricks? Quote
TechWife Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Pay one of the house decor companies to it? Here they are usually landscaping companies. 2 Quote
TexasProud Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Yeah, we don’t do lights. Not even worth it for a regular roof. My husband fixed multiple broken bones of 3 of our Sunday School members alone. Just not worth it for silly lights. 1 1 Quote
Selkie Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I agree with hiring a professional to do it. There was just an ambulance call here for someone who was hanging lights and fell off a 20' high ladder and landed on concrete. 5 Quote
Carol in Cal. Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I'd decorate a tree out front instead. Or just have lights and maybe a Stern over the doorway. 3 Quote
KungFuPanda Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I aim the projector thingy at my house. It’s lit with 5 minutes effort. 😬 4 Quote
lmrich Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 net lights on any bushes out front candles in the windows (inside) purchase a reindeer or prelit tree big wreath on the door the projector thing or nothing - and just enjoy the holiday 2 Quote
Spryte Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 We have a tall house, and thanks to this board I have nixed the super tall ladders. We do wreaths, garland, bows, and some sparkly white balls on the porch ceiling. We wrap a tree out front (DS does this, and it’s amazing). We have a big lighted snowman now, near the mailbox, that appears to be tangling lights and making a mess of decorating. That’s a new thing, we’ve only ever gone traditional till now. 1 Quote
Laura Corin Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) We put a wreath on the door - I just finished making it - festive window boxes on the ground floor, and lights around the garage roof. There's no front garden for a tree, but we put our tree in the front window. Edited November 28, 2021 by Laura Corin 2 Quote
athena1277 Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 We wrapped the lower parts of 2 trees and I’m putting out some cute wooden holiday decorations. We have a 2 story house and there’s no way I would get up there on a ladder. 1 Quote
Laura Corin Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 I went a bit more bling in the end. Each of the windows - five in all on a flat-fronted house - will have these lights on the inside. The house front is otherwise a bit austere. 4 Quote

thewellerman Posted December 4, 2021 Author Posted December 4, 2021 Thanks! We are definitely not climbing on the roof or using a ladder, but I was hoping there was a gadget that could do it. I found a pole hook thing, but it looks iffy and I don't want to spend money on it. I think we are going to attempt making reindeer shapes with lights down the privacy fence, and then just see where we go from there. 1 Quote

I believe we used it a few years before we gave up on lighting the roofline. Iirc, it did work fine but you had to buy those special little hooks/clips and I don’t remember seeing them in recent years. Now we just light bushes, front porch, front windows from the interior, and lights along the fence line. Quote

We have a super long pole that we bought to paint the high ceilings and upper walls in the entry way. Is the christmas light pole thing a specific pole? Or could I use the pole we already have? Assuming I could find the clips, I guess. Quote

I used the pole gadget to hang lights on the first story gutters, but I think it would be too awkward for the peak of the second story roof. We hang lights inside the windows on the second story to give our light display some height. Quote

thewellerman Posted December 4, 2021 Author Posted December 4, 2021 Just now, alisoncooks said: It had a specialty end that held the clips. Too bad. I was hoping it was just a screw on adapter that came with the clips. Well, we have lights down the fence now, and I have a few wreaths that I think I'll put on the first story windows. Maybe I can wrap lights on them. Quote
