We moved over the summer, and our new house is really tall.  We don't have a long enough ladder to reach the top, and the roof has a steep enough pitch that we'd like to avoid having to climb all the way up.

Any tips and tricks?

Yeah, we don’t do lights. Not even worth it for a regular roof. My husband fixed multiple broken bones of 3 of our Sunday School members alone. Just not worth it for silly lights.

I agree with hiring a professional to do it. There was just an ambulance call here for someone who was hanging lights and fell off a 20' high ladder and landed on concrete.

net lights on any bushes out front

candles in the windows (inside)

purchase a reindeer or prelit tree

big wreath on the door

the projector thing

or nothing - and just enjoy the holiday

We have a tall house, and thanks to this board I have nixed the super tall ladders.

We do wreaths, garland, bows, and some sparkly white balls on the porch ceiling. We wrap a tree out front (DS does this, and it’s amazing). We have a big lighted snowman now, near the mailbox, that appears to be tangling lights and making a mess of decorating. That’s a new thing, we’ve only ever gone traditional till now.

We put a wreath on the door - I just finished making it - festive window boxes on the ground floor, and lights around the garage roof. There's no front garden for a tree, but we put our tree in the front window.

I went a bit more bling in the end. Each of the windows - five in all on a flat-fronted house - will have these lights on the inside. The house front is otherwise a bit austere.

Thanks!  We are definitely not climbing on the roof or using a ladder, but I was hoping there was a gadget that could do it.  I found a pole hook thing, but it looks iffy and I don't want to spend money on it.

I think we are going to attempt making reindeer shapes with lights down the privacy fence, and then just see where we go from there.

We had one of those extendable poles that attached lights. I believe we used it a few years before we gave up on lighting the roofline. Iirc, it did work fine but you had to buy those special little hooks/clips and I don’t remember seeing them in recent years.

Now we just light bushes, front porch, front windows from the interior, and lights along the fence line.

We have a super long pole that we bought to paint the high ceilings and upper walls in the entry way.  Is the christmas light pole thing a specific pole?  Or could I use the pole we already have?  Assuming I could find the clips, I guess.

I used the pole gadget to hang lights on the first story gutters, but I think it would be too awkward for the peak of the second story roof. We hang lights inside the windows on the second story to give our light display some height.

It had a specialty end that held the clips.

Too bad.  I was hoping it was just a screw on adapter that came with the clips.

Well, we have lights down the fence now, and I have a few wreaths that I think I'll put on the first story windows.  Maybe I can wrap lights on them.
