ScoutTN Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I’ve been awake for well over an hour. Sigh. Moving to the living room to read. Maybe that will help my mind turn off again so I can sleep. Anyone else up in the wee hrs of this TG day? 2 Quote
LifeLovePassion Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Just woke up. Might doze off still, but unlikely. 1 Quote
Melissa Louise Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 That's frustrating. Sleep seems like it should be easy. Not the middle of the night for me, just procrastinating on some work. What are you reading? 1 Quote
Arcadia Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I am still awake doing my class homework. DS15 is awake too doing his homework. Its 2:40am here 1 Quote
teachermom2834 Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I’m up! Woke around 4:00. Gave up on getting back to sleep around 4:30. I’m having 17 people here for dinner today. I have some things I could do but nothing that would have helped as much as a couple more hours sleep. I don’t really want to start banging around in the kitchen and wake everyone else. Ugh. I had been sleeping well for a few months but then started waking between 3-4 and I can’t seem to shake that habit. Sometimes I can get back to sleep but other times I just get up and start my coffee. 1 Quote
regentrude Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 (edited) Yep. Jetlag. Went to be at 8, slept four hours, got up for first bout of insomnia just after midnight, puttered around for an hour, then slept until 4am. This is it for the day. Already an improvement. Gotta find some quiet chores that won't wake the family. We're only 7 for dinner, so it'll only take a couple of hours to make the food. Edited November 25, 2021 by regentrude 1 Quote
Pawz4me Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I'm up and have been for about an hour, but this is a perfectly normal time for me to be up (very much a lark, not a night owl). So I don't count as insomnia. This is the best time of my day! 3 Quote

That phase can last 13 years and definitely messes with the sleep. Been dealing with that for years, still regular cycles 2 Quote

Carrie12345 Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I’ve been up since 5ish. This is a huge improvement from last week’s 3am streak. I get stuck in weird sleep cycles every 2-4 weeks or so. (I go to bed early and don’t mind waking early, but the 3am thing is pretty ridiculous.) 1 Quote
TravelingChris Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I woke up at 3:53am and slept for 3 hours and 50 minutes if you are considering total sleep and brief waking moments and 3 hours 26 total minutes. I was in 10/10 pain and needed to go to the restroom. I ended up calling for dh to bring me something to drink and hand me the Vera Wang little pill box I carry that contains compartments for the days of the week- but I have relabeled them as to my needs. I took my Norco and muscle relaxant plus lidocaine cream and patches and Voltaren gell and I am still in level 8 pain,. It is mostly super intense nerve pain, specifically felt like my entire right leg had fallen asleep but wouldn't wake up. I had spinal fusion surgery last Thursday and they do warn you of usually increased pain and weird sensations after a few days (in my case a week). It happens because the nerves that had been compressed are actually now starting to work. As they continue to heal, it should get better in several weeks- and I hope to figure out how to make sure I am taking all my medications to relieve nerve pain- like amytryptilline, Gralise, muscle relaxants, lidocaine, etc on a regular schedule. I will be calling my surgeon's office again tomorrow about what to do if pain gets that excruciating painful again. But as to normal insomnia, I often get up too early, with either pain, needing to use restroom or both. Sometimes I can fall back asleep and sometimes I can't. 7 Quote
cintinative Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 @TravelingChris that sounds awful. I am so sorry. I hope you can figure out some pain management so you can sleep. I didn't sleep well last night either but I didn't get up (I am stubborn that way). From about when my dh came to bed I was tossing for hours. I had to take ds16 to work at 7 and then was so tired that I went to lay back down but couldn't sleep. Ah well. Maybe the turkey will help? 2 Quote
MooCow Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I was up off and on, my dgd was up and down. She's happy now though. 2 Quote

ScoutTN Posted November 25, 2021 Author Posted November 25, 2021 I read for a couple hours, then dozed on the sofa. We keep our house chilly at night and I got cold despite a robe and some fleece throw blankets. Went back to bed and slept for an hour or so, then got up for real to take medication, start the dishwasher, make coffee, etc. Maybe I’ll get a nap this afternoon? 4 Quote
