DH has had all of these brands at one point or another.  It's hard to know what to buy because manufacturers have changed/added to their styles over the years.  And, dh wears out his jeans and then beyond! LOL!  So, he doesn't buy new jeans often and in his dresser he keeps older styles that are just the regular run of the mill jean style.

I have small Christmas gifts for him this year because he is hard to buy for.  One of his gifts will be a new pair of jeans.

We're not 35 anymore so skinny jeans would not suit him at.all!  He is "not" hip like that.  🙂

There are so many styles. But, first brand?

Second, which style?  The below terminology is from Levi's but I'm certain the styles would be same from  brand to brand even if the name is different the sytle would be the same.   IOW, Levi's "straight" may be called Wrangler's "name" BUT sytle is the same.
Straight - I think too straight
Slim - I think too slim
Skinny - uh no, he would hate this style
Tapered - MAYBE
Bootcut - I think this is the "regular" style from decades past and it's a nice style but I'm thinking he could use a more updated look plus he's on shorter side.
Relaxed - MAYBE
Loose - too sloppy-looking

I guess I am leaning towards tapered or relaxed which will help him look a little taller compared to the "old style" bootcut which is quite loose.  I was told that the different styles are reflected with how roomy a "seat" is as well as thigh area.  But, I'm still having a hard time to choose b/t tapered and relaxed.

Suggestions on brand and style?   🙂

Idk what size he is, but my DH prefers land’s end for custom inseams.  One of my BIL’s is a bigger guy and loves Duluth Trading Co’s Ballroom Jeans. He’s raved about them on multiple occasions.

My dh, after YEARS of somewhat unflattering but perfectly functional Levi’s, found a pair at Old Navy of all places.
They’re “relaxed slim taper.”  They’re stylish without looking like he’s trying too hard to be stylish ifykwim.

Thank you! I just ordered slippers from Lands' End which arrive Saturday (for dh).  I'll keep this in mind for another pair of jeans but right now I'm just looking for that "classic" manufacture.

Dh pretty much sticks with Levis relaxed.   He works in them, wears them all the time.

Thanks!  Are they more loose, more straight or down the middle?

Levi straights….relaxed can be baggy and unflattering on certain body types.

Right, baggy would look terrible on a stick but my husband isn't that.  🙂  He will not prefer straight so can't go with that.

Thanks.  Just looking for one of the classic manufacturers for now.

If you're specifically looking for a little extra room in the seat and thigh, the Levi Athletic Taper fit is perfect for that. The taper isn't very obvious, they just look like normal jeans. The Athletic Fit jeans also often include some stretchiness, which is nice. DS wore regular fit Wranglers for years, but switched to Athletic Fit Levis now that he's a college athlete and has gained a lot of muscle. They're very expensive though — I had sticker shock after years of buying Wranglers!

Wrangler makes a slim taper but it seems much tighter on the bottom than the Levi Athletic Taper. I don't know if they make an Athletic Fit; if they do I have never seen them.

My DH will only wear Levi’s- relaxed fit straight leg with either boots or converse sneakers depending on occasion

Relaxed/straight - that might work as long as it's not skinny or slim.  So, what is the difference b/t straight and tapered.  I'm clearly in a tmi zone!  LOL!

DH will not do a slim or skinny.  The sale on Levi's is here!  And, I'm sure other brands too!

How tall is he and size does he wear? Does he have thin or huskier legs?

It’s hard to give you a recommendation without knowing those things.

Well, he has very little body fat (measured) but mostly lean and muscle.

Straight literally go straight down — if you lay them flat there is little or no difference in the width of the leg from crotch to hem. Tapered gradually get a little narrower as they go down. Athletic taper is designed for athletes with more developed butt and thighs; the width on the bottom is similar to a normal straight leg, but there's a little more room at the top (without being baggy). Otherwise athletes with a more muscular build either need to buy wider jeans to fit their butt & thighs, and then the bottom of the jeans look too loose/wide, or they have to deal with jeans that are really tight through the seat and thighs but look normal on the bottom. If your DH has a slim to normal build then straight or regular cut would be good, if he is more muscular then athletic taper might be better.

I don't think this is the kind of thing one should buy without trying on and expect them to fit properly. If it does,  IMO that is a miracle.

I needed Jeans.  A few years ago, DW and DSS were in downtown Cali where they supposedly had real Levi jeans (not imitations).  She bought me a couple of pairs of Jeans there that I can't wear and it was too far to go back there with her and try on to try to find pairs that  fit like I want them to fit.

In that same store, the same day, she bought several shirts for me that are fine. I wear them.

After the experience of her being in the store downtown, without me, one day we were in the superstore in the nearest mall.  I still needed Jeans.  Tiring to try them on, but necessary.

After trying on some much more expensive Jeans that didn't fit me properly, I walked around and I looked at all of the mens Jeans they had on the racks.   I decided that I would begin with the least expensive ones and then go up to more expensive ones. Well, the least expensive ones, a brand I had never heard of, were the most comfortable and I bought 3 pairs of those and I wear them.

My DW was with me and possibly my DD too.  I would come out of the Dressing Room, so they could see how each pair of Jeans fit me or didn't fit me and look for something that would fit me better.

I'm very happy with the Jeans I bought that day.  Go with your DH to a store where he can try them on before buying!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on WTM!

That was an excellent description!  OK, he would prefer and look better in tapered or athletic taper then!  THANKS!

Thanks, Lanny! Right, he's played the "run way" model before LOL!  He's tried them on and I've observed.  I know the brands that work and size I've I've been buying him clothes for decades but I just want to replace the "baggy" look or with a more updated one.   Hey, he can always exchange.  He's kept the other jeans I've given him and it's all worked out.  But, he always has that option of exchanging or returning.   Thanks!
