It's a beautiful and cold day here. Wherever you are, I hope you enjoy the beauty of your day.

Today we are grateful for our children. Write three things you enjoy or appreciate about each of your children (for those with larger families, I'm sorry!  lol)

Action step: Tell your child(ren) at least one thing you appreciate about them. Ask your child to share something they are grateful for; assist them with an action step to show their gratitude. Have your child discuss a challenge they are going through and help them appreciate their potential for personal growth or develop a personal affirmation to get them through the challenge.

Three things I enjoy or appreciate about each of my kids:

Kid1:

  • Really cares about others, though it doesn't always show through.  She is very generous and always looking out for others.
  • Such a strong young lady, both physically and mentally.  Always fighting multiple uphill battles that are invisible to most people.
  • I think she has a cute personality - sassy, quick-witted, with a Murphy's law kind of humility.  She makes me laugh when I shouldn't.  😛

Kid2:

  • Loving and affectionate.  Not too old to want hugs and good-night kisses from Mom.
  • A deep thinker with big ideas.  She has a mind of her own, always has ... but she also wants to know what everyone else thinks.
  • This one also makes me laugh when I shouldn't.  😛  Super creative and ridiculous.

Action steps may have to wait ... though these are things we do pretty much every day.  🙂

  • tenacity and independence

I'll write them both notes and send them through the mail.

I appreciate

DD1

  • Her kindness and compassion to others
  • Her absolute passion for horses and riding
  • Her determination to meet her goal of becoming a psychologist

DD2

  • Her unique way of seeing the world and brilliant mind.
  • The fierce loyalty she has for her friends
  • The courage and determination with which she lives with the difficulties of being autistic

Off to tell them both..

Child #1: able to speak up for herself, determined to make it through college, and cat whisperer

Child #2: resilient beyond belief, planner of everything, willing to try almost anything

Child #3: super self-disciplined, sassy-pants, and super intuitive friend who always knows what someone needs

Just 3 things? Both are coming this week, so I may give them handwritten notes.

DD

  • empathetic toward others, especially the poor, weak, or overlooked; I didn't always see that in her and my sister and I prayed for her to have it.
  • very creative with stories; she used to write a lot but now designs elaborate D&D worlds and stories
  • dedication to her job; she has rarely missed a day and has stayed loyal in spite of many people leaving her hospital

DS

  • funny and a joy to be around; I used to call him our live-in laugh machine.
  • level of responsibility he seems to be taking with his education; he wasn't always serious about it but has great grades right now
  • quick to get over being upset and doesn't hold a grudge; even when he was a kid and got in trouble, he would have a great attitude
