lauraw4321
I need to get my oldest a ski jacket, but she absolutely HATES the swishy sound that almost jackets make when your arms rub against the body. It’s the waterproof material that makes the sound. Does anyone know of waterproof jackets that are made out of quiet material? TIA!
*****
Try a coat that snowboarders use? IDK, just a thought. It seems like they have a variety of styles, maybe there will be something to those. It they are a 'shell' then wear fleece underneath. Or go with a good wool sweater over layers?
MEmama
Will fleece work? I mean, it’s not quite the same but it avoids the swishy sound and is plenty water resistant if it’s just falling in powder/light snow conditions.
Jaybee
Wondering if you used Scotchgard on fleece, if that wouldn't work well.
Faith-manor
Hmmm. My guys ski in hoodies, LOL, but ski slopes in that part of Michigan are not as cold as say Colorado! They work up a sweat skiing with actual ski coats on. Maybe check and see what REI has and read reviews.

prairiewindmomma
There’s stuff out there made with wool and down, but it is also $$$$. Seriously. Waxed canvas is another thought, but it is heavy and it’s going to be difficult to find in kid sizes.
Tap
I hate that sound too! I suggest going into stores and trying them on. If you have a Sierra Trading Post, it is a great place to get a good deal on coats and they have a large selection.
Faith-manor
According to the Snowheads site, Gortex coats by Marmot do not rustle. I know nothing about that company or the sizes they offer. But I thought I would toss that out there. Apparently there are other skiers and snowboarders who like quiet coats. I would not have known. Dh has been known to shoosh down the mountain in his leather jacket! 😁

I would highly recommend trying them.👍

Elizabeth86
My oldest son also hates this sound. Maybe Carhartt? Pretty sure they are waterproof, but don’t take my word for it.
kristin0713
My Patagonia jacket is not that swishy. It's Gortex. This also depends on where she will be skiing. My kids often end up taking the shell off of their ski jacket and just skiing in the fleece. But we ski in PA and do not ski when it is bitter cold or super windy.
