Do you put it in the main room you spend most your time in? Do you put it in a different room? Maybe a more formal room? Do you put it in the same place every year?

Currently, we put it in the family room in front of the windows that face to the back yard. I am thinking of switching it up this year.

Usually in our family room but we've added a few pieces of furniture this year so I'm not sure where it is going to go.  We just discussed this yesterday.  During the year we added three computer desks in the family room so all the kids desktops are in the public rooms (yes, each kid at home has their own so that's five computer stations and four are in one room!  We are also storing a couch for one of my adult kids and the only place it could go was in our main public area.  Anyway, things are crowded and that's really the only place I could possible put it as we don't have a formal living room.  I do have a small cupboard in one corner so we'll probably move that somewhere else and put the tree in that corner.

I love decorating for Christmas but it usually ends up driving me crazy because it makes the house feel more crowded.  I'll look forward to the space again in January!

We will have one in the basement and one in the main area upstairs. For large family get togethers or parties (like we used to have...) we would hang out in the basement so it was nice to have one down there, too. My mom LOVES Christmas and gifts my family at least 10 ornaments a year so we have plenty for two trees.

Which one? 🙂

Our big Christmas tree goes in our den, which is not the room we spend the most time in, but is the entrance to our home, and has windows facing the street, which is where we place the tree in the room. It *is* the room with the staircase, though, so anytime anyone goes up or down the stairs, they pass by it.

We have a smaller tree in our living room, where we spend most of our family time, and that's the tree with all of our handmade ornaments.

Our Jesse Tree is the smallest one (about four feet, I think), and that goes in our schoolroom.

We are fortunate enough to have a living room and a tv room here.  We spend most of our family time in the tv room, but the living room is part of the open floor plan part of the house where the dining room and kitchen are.  Our tree goes there, nestled in a corner between the potbelly gas heating stove and the window.  The reading chair that is usually there moves to the other window, and a basket of Christmas books sits on the floor between the tree and chair.

So, the first thing you see when you walk in is Christmas, the view from the dining room is like a Norman Rockwell painting, but we can tone down the effect in the closed off room where we watch tv together on the big couch.

We put it in the same place every year - in the living room/front room, facing the street, so when out on the sidewalk lights are visible through the windows.  It's not really where we spend the most time, but it's visible from the kitchen eating area, which is probably where we spend the most time together. It's the only place in our house a tree will fit.

We put ours in the family room in front of the big window.  You can see it from the front windows as well in this location and I enjoy seeing it as we drive up.  We end up rearranging the whole room and moving a chair or two out of the room but  when we first moved here we tried it in multiple locations and we like this the best.  Makes me happy to see it most of the day.  We have an open type floor plan where you can see kitchen, dining room, family room, etc ..  Minimal walls.  Our living room/tv room up front is too small to hold everyone plus a tree, it was originally designed to be a library/sitting area and with a family of seven plus all the animals and when others come over there is just no room there.

I have a dining room in the front of the house. But it is a big open floor plan so we can see the dining room from the living room basically. I am considering taking the leafs out of the dining room table after dinner on Thanksgiving and turning the table sideways to fit the tree in there. And then putting the Christmas village where the tree used to go on the shelf that my dad had handmade for my mom. That would be in the family room, up by the windows. But I am wondering if this would just be a drag for everyone to not have the tree right there for Christmas.

We used to put our tree in the living room after moving a chair slightly. It was in line from the front door and had a window behind it. It was visible but not in the way much.  But then I saw pencil trees, and we gave that old fat tree away. I now move our buffet table slightly down the wall to make room for our pencil tree and put it in a small space against the wall. Handy so it isn't in the way, still is in the living room and visible, but it doesn't stick out plus no furniture was moved out into traffic areas. Presents can be stacked under the buffet table so they aren't in the way either.  At some point, I may get a shorter thin tree and put it on the buffet table itself!

Our tree goes in a little, unused corner in our living room. It doesn’t shine through a window because our couch blocks that.

We also switched to a smaller/pencil tree a few years ago. Before, we had to move furniture aside and worry about outlets — not anymore! My family isn’t a fan but I LOVE it.

We also have a smaller tree (6’) at the end of the hall, near the bedrooms. It’s totally in the way, shoved against a wall, but it works.

Which one? 😂 We have quite a few trees. Our main tree (9' with all of our family ornaments) is in the family room where we spend the most time.  We have themed 7' or 7'5" ones in both the formal dining room and the breakfast room. Both of my daughters have 6' (I think) trees in their rooms. There is also a similar sized tree in the upper landing outside the upstairs bedrooms. Finally, we have a 6' tree down a hallway that leads to the new addition to our house and a 7' one on our front porch.  Yes, we are insane!! 🤣

What about switching and putting the village in the dining room…

In a corner of the living room by the French doors that lead to the deck. Our tree is always anchored to the wall (because of cats) and many years is fenced off with puppy playpen panels (because of dogs). That will definitely be the case this year because our 8 month old Texas rescue pup, Ducky, is still in the velociraptor stage.🙂

Always in the same place: in a corner in our family room. I would have to do major rearranging of furniture to put it anywhere else. And we only have one, which feels weird for me to say in the first place, lol.

Lots of Christmas decorations here, but only one tree.

Different years, we've had it in 3 different common rooms.  It partly depends on the size / where it can fit.

Now that we have a pup, we'll have to figure this out anew soon.

We downsized, so we only have 1 realistic option with my 7ft. skinny tree-the living room.  When youngest is done homeschooling, it will go to the other side of the living room where her desk currently is because it will be more out of the way. I have always had only one Christmas tree because I'm more minimalistic.

Only one living space here. Tree goes in front of the picture window. We do have to move furniture to do it, but as long as the tree is not too wide, it works. Real tree.
We put it up the second week of advent, generally.

We'll have one in the family room, where we spend a lot of time. We'll also have one in the "front room" window. This one will be mostly lights and shiny balls that will be noticeable and pretty from the street.

My kitchen and family room are one long room. I like to put it in front of the fixed portion of a sliding glass door. There is a heater vent there, so when we had a natural tree, I blocked the vent with a magnetic cover.  I like it here, because I get to enjoy it when I am cooking or in the living room. I am not in the front rooms often.

I sometimes put the tree in the front room, in front of the big window or in a nearby location. It looks pretty in front of the window, but if I block that heater vent, it messes with the temperature of the house.  We get more temperature swings, and the upstairs seems warmer than downstairs. I think this is because this vent is closer to the air return that the vent mentioned above. DD23 loved it in front of the window. She liked coming home and seeing it shining through the window from the street.

Maybe 10 years ago, I got an artificial tree too. The natural tree was in the front room, and the artificial tree was in the family room. Now that my kids are getting older and have moved out, they are taking all of their special ornaments, and I am giving some to my x-h when I pull every thing down from the attic.  I am down to just one tree again, so I once again have to choose where to put it. I think it will put it in the family room.

If all goes well, it will be up tonight. I have to figure out how to put it together tho. LOL Last year x-h stopped by when I was getting it out of the garage, so he put it together for me. 🙂 Maybe I will get lucky again today!

It's in the living room.  It has the highest ceiling.   dh and I spend the most time in here. When the kids were little, it was our "formal" room as their toys were kept in the family room.  We would all be in here when there wasn't playing involved.

I did a 2nd tree in my family room for a few years.

Some years we get a real tree, some years we’ve used a fake one, and a couple years ago we switched to small table top tree because we got a kitty (and now have two). They pretty much leave the small tree alone and like to sleep underneath it. 🙂 The exact location varies depending on which type of tree we use, but the only room we have is our living room. It faces the street but I close my blinds as soon as it starts to get dark (so, by 4pm).

I'm kinda thinking about getting a real tree this year so it feels extra celebratory when DS comes home, but then I realize it would take the kitten about .0002 seconds to leap to the top of it, which forces me to rethink the wisdom of that plan. Lol

We have been in this house two years and put the tree in the living room, visible through the front window.  We may, however, put it in the family room this year because we no longer have a dog in the house.

We have never had a separate living room and family room, just one room where we spend most of our time. Except when the kids were really little -- when we set up the tree in a space behind a baby gate for a couple of years -- we've always put up the tree in the living room.

This is our first year in this house, so I'm not sure where it will go this year, but I assume we'll stick with the usual approach.

I would love to put it up in a place where it could be seen from the street, but the only window we have that faces the front is in my office.

We have lived in our current house for three years.  The first two it went in the living room in front of the bay window facing the street.  Last year we put it in the living room in a different spot because our dog likes to look out front and I was afraid he would knock it over.  I want to put it back by the front window this year, but I have the same fear, so I am contemplating where we could put it far enough away to give dog room to look out, but not knock over the tree or ornaments.  We don't spend a ton of time in the living room unless we are just visiting in the evening.  But we have an open floor plan and can see it from many parts of the house.

I am also contemplating getting two trees this year so that we can put one in the family room where I spend most of my time.  We have so many ornaments right now that they don't all fit on one tree.

In our old house we put the tree in different spots every year.  Sometimes living room, sometimes family room.  I like to switch things up a lot.  My family gets annoyed with how much I like to move furniture around.  I get it from my mom, who does the same thing.

We have an open floor plan with just one living room area. We move a chair and ottoman to put the tree in the corner in front of a window facing the street. We keep those blinds open in December, so it's part of our outdoor decoration too! So ours is in the main living area, visible from entry, kitchen, and dining area, and it's the space where we spend our evenings and can enjoy our tree.

We put our tree in the playroom (it's the formal living room of the house). The kids and I spend a lot of time in the playroom so it's a convienient place and we get a lot of viewing use out of it.

One in the living room that is attached to the dining room where we do school. This is the more formal one that I decorate and has a village and train under it. No presents.  Window faces the street.

One in the entry way in front of another window that faces the street.  This one is small and has string around it with tiny clothespins. We clip on all the cards and letters that come.

One in the family room. This is the tree the kids decorate and where all the presents are.  It is in the same room as the fireplace and stockings.

We only have one living area, so that is where it has to go. We have a small wooden trunk by the TV cabinet that I move over, and we put the tree there. It's a spot that is "almost" between the living and dining areas, and about the only place it can go with access to a plug, without our doing major moving around. Our tree is 6' tall, not very big, actually, but it seems like any bigger would make it too dominant for comfort and ease in the living area. We really need a new tree, but I keep hanging onto this one, because we have traveled at Christmas the past couple of years, and will this one too. We still put it up, but it is hard for me to justify the cost of buying another when we aren't actually here at Christmas. Maybe we will talk ourselves into a new one with the sales after Christmas this year. Or not.
