math teacher Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Yesterday, I worked a shift at our school fall festival. Bounce houses, slides, etc. I saw 2 adults (not sure if they had children with them-didn't when I saw them) who really got my attention. One had white face paint, I can't remember the costume. The other woman had a costume of some sort-I can't remember it either-I was fixated on the following detail. She was dragging what looked to be a broken naked wooden doll. At one point, she sat on the doll. i can't remember ever seeing a weirder costume. Quote
MercyA Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 (edited) That is extremely odd. Hoping that someone can enlighten us? Is this from a movie or something? And at a school fall festival? Why??? Edited November 1, 2021 by MercyA 2 Quote
Elizabeth86 Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 I’m interested in finding out too. Sounds odd! The odd costume I saw was a 6 year old child dressed as the giant doll from Squid Game. Like why? Surely the child hasn’t watched the show. 1 Quote

A lot of my first graders have watched the show, I'm sorry to say. 2 7 Quote

They banned the costumes in some schools. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/oct/29/squid-game-costumes-halloween-new-york-schools I let my 16 yo go out covered in fake blood (Stephen King's Carrie) yesterday, but this is the first year we allowed something more graphic than a cute witch hat. 2 Quote

Definitely a more appropriate age! 2 Quote

What I've heard is that most young kids have not (though I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions, sadly), but they have played the Roblox game. It's Roblox, so it's not gory like the show, but the plot elements are the same. 1 1 Quote
KungFuPanda Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 The older I get the more costumes I don't recognize. I'm just not up on the latest shows/games/animes that kids like. My own kids are adults. That's on me. My strategy is to say "cool costume" even when I don't know what I'm talking about. I figure I'm being nice and encouraging creativity. My daughter and her husband did a couple costume for a show I've never seen. All I remember is that she needed binoculars. 1 Quote

I just asked my kids, who I know have not watched Squid Games to describe the thing that kills you in red light green light. I didn't call it a doll or anything just specifically what kills you and they described it pretty well. 1 Quote
