I have a kid who is not yet fully vaccinated but needs to show proof of a negative covid test to do an activity. She has endured a not-the-worst nasal swab already when she went to the ER. She does NOT want to do that again under any circumstances. In the interest of getting her in to this event, how can I find a saliva-based test?

Online, places usually don't say. I found one place - but it says it is only for college students (at that particular college).

Tips? Or am I going to have to call every single place?

Our state has a vaccine site where you check the boxes of what you're looking for (nasal or saliva, rapid test or not, etc.), and it gives you the various locations in your area.  Those are the state sponsored sites.  There are other places too of course, like drug stores, that operate independently and you'd have to call them.

The recent tests we have done (both PCR and rapid) have been where each nostril is just swabbed (swirled around several times) - it does not go up so high. This method is not painful at all. Maybe your testing locations are doing it this way? I would call and ask.

This is what was done at the ER. It may have been due to the medical issue at the time, but it was exceedingly distressful to her and she has no interest in undergoing it again.

At CVS you do the nasal swab yourself. Would she be comfortable doing that?

Nope. She's firm on that. It is saliva or nothing. Thanks for trying.

We don't have that. I'll check neighboring states to see if they do.

When I got the nasal swab test at Walgreens, I did it myself, and was instructed to only insert it far enough so that the tip was completely in (which wasn't far enough to make it uncomfortable, and I have a small nose).
