mlktwins Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 He is having his first cataract surgery. Normally an easy, low-risk procedure, but he has dry eyes, doesn't dilate well (due to a med), and has a very dense cataract. Would very much appreciate good thought/prayers for him today. It is at 12:20 EST. He usually does well with surgeries, but it is hard for him to lie flat on his back and he needs to do that for the procedure, he is already a fall risk (which they know), and he has urinary issues that make him feel like he needs to go all the time. It is probably going to be a long day for him, the surgery staff, me, and his caregivers 😋! I just want it done so he can see again. Thanks so much! 16 Quote

I was very nervous, but it went off without a hitch. So glad to hear! I missed any updates and was wondering about him. Prayers for the op as well. 3 1 Quote

TravelingChris Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Prayers for him. I am sure I will have to get this surgery and I have Sjogren's so super dry eyes and yes, my AS makes it very painful to lie on my back without softness and being able to move, and something, probably dysautonomia, is causing bladder and gastro issues, and on and on and on. I really hope it goes well for him and would appreciate you telling us or PM me about how it went and any difficulties he encountered. 1 Quote
mlktwins Posted October 20, 2021 Author Posted October 20, 2021 He is still back in surgery. Taking a lot longer than expected 😬! 6 Quote

mlktwins Posted October 21, 2021 Author Posted October 21, 2021 Thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts. We were supposed to be there 2-3 hours, but it ended up being 4-5 hours. He is fine, thank goodness! They had problems getting him dilated enough. Dr. Took another patient before him to give him more time to dilate. He still ended up doing a mechanical dilation, which took longer. Now to keep him from rubbing his eye as he says it feels like he has something in it. Back to the doctor tomorrow for a follow-up and hopefully get measured for the left eye to be done in 2 weeks. 16 Quote
