theelfqueen Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 (edited) I need waterproof shoes that can take on some walking. I am not opposed to hiking boots or trail runners... I am not opposed to something else. Wellies probably won't be suited to the amount of walking required. I have some cute Merell waterproof booties I wore all over Ireland a couple years back that kept my feet warm and dry but I think I'd like a tad bit more support. Also I wear a 9 1/2 Womens (so a 7 1/2 or 8 Mens, and am not 100% opposed to men's as an option) also wider calfs so if it's higher, must accommodate that.. For Cornwall in December. Edited October 8, 2021 by theelfqueen I have fat calves. Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Keen Targhee III is what I wear. Last weekend I wore them in heavy rain, then went out the next day to the beach and walked in shallow streams and along the waterline. My feet stayed completely dry. Dd wore Oboz—Sawtooth? maybe the model. Dh wears Salomon X Ultra 3s. The boys wear Columbia’s, but they don’t stay as dry in immersion situations. They are very good in heavy rain. We did dozens of hikes this summer—I can highly recommend them for most terrains. I particularly love my Keens for wet leaves and loose rock—things I have previously had falls on. I wear green super feet inserts in my shoes for high arches. https://www.superfeet.com/en-us/green I have jacked up feet, arches, ankles, knees, and hips thanks to rheumatoid arthritis and these keep me mobile and going. I can comfortably wear my shoes for 12 hours when wearing good woolen socks. Quote
SounderChick Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Hoka now has several of its sneakers available in a gore tex. Quote
Laura Corin Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Merrells has waterproof walking shoes that would work. Make sure that you can wear warm socks - Cornwall can be chillier than the basic temperature would suggest. 1 Quote
theelfqueen Posted October 8, 2021 Author Posted October 8, 2021 I wear merino wool socks basically all winter as is. Theres a pair of these Keen Targees and a pair of Merell Sirens waiting in the Amazon cart already so you guys are right on my wavelength! I will also look at Hoka. 1 Quote
TrulySusan Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 (edited) When I went to Germany, I took clear waterproof shoe covers I bought on Amazon. They went over my regular shoes and worked great- it rained for the first 11 days but my feet stayed dry. Probably not the most fashionable, but they did the trick and I had the comfort of my regular shoes. Easier to pack too! eta- we walked about 8 miles a day, mostly cities, some trails but nothing rugged. Edited October 9, 2021 by TrulySusan Quote
theelfqueen Posted October 19, 2021 Author Posted October 19, 2021 So I ordered two pairs of Merrell and one pair of Keens. Keeping the Keens! Thanks friends! 3 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 FWIW, my Keens were stiff through the arch for my first 10 miles or so. I wasn't sure if I was going to love them. I really do, now, but if you aren't completely enamored with them after your first long walk, know that they can improve! Happy travels! Quote
gardenmom5 Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 (edited) Dansko makes "rain" shoes. They're waterproof too. And pretty. (for Danskos .. . ) Edited October 20, 2021 by gardenmom5 Quote
Ausmumof3 Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Froggers are popular here but I don’t know how well they’d stand up to long walks. Quote
