HomeAgain Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Just now, Critterfixer said: Cooking: well, we were going to have chicken and risotto, but it turned out I didn't have the arborio rice I thought I had, so now it's pizza. Dinner here was supposed to be chicken and fregola sarda. 😄 I forgot we had run out. Chicken and orzo it is! HomeAgain Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Good morning! Yesterday was actually too busy, lol. Today: School Tutoring Dinner - crispy spicy tofu over rice and veggies Take ds to scouts Yesterday we got word that cases are running through our area again. It took one week of being back at school for an entire hockey team to be shut down. For us, the first week of practices on our team this year had two kids wearing masks. Last night had about half the team, so at least it's a trend in the right direction. We managed to avoid a team quarantine last year even with one parent testing positive. Why? Because we mitigated risk as much as possible. Coach kept the kids spread out. They didn't hang out in the rink. They were all masked, as were all the parents. The only 'close contacts' that week when it happened were myself and a nurse, both 6 feet away from the parent as we talked. We both quarantined and got tested. Just a rant. There is no mask mandate for unvaccinated, but I can't even hope the rink does the right thing and creates a policy. I have a feeling we're going to be seeing more shut downs. 2 1 Quote
serendipitous journey Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) Afternoon, y'all. September has morphed from First Month of School to Last Month of School Planning. Oy vey. We're keeping toes in, but the main focus is getting the essentials done and finishing off my plans so we're open-and-go. Today's remaining tasks: Music with younger. Some math with elder. Fitness for boys, me. Get elder's Great Books routine into a document. Dinner: shakshuka & fry bread & veggies. Read-alouds before bed. Some cleaning, garden work would be great. And: find out why elder's Russian homework didn't get submitted today. (wasn't actually his bad -- the teacher wanted them to do the work orally, so no submission even though there was an online assignment listed). HomeAgain Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Happy Wednesday! Today: School Pack lunches Park meet up School Pack car for physical training and possibly skills* work Pack dinners Class on Zoom for me/take ds to PT at the same time Clean up from the day. *So, the skills work is a possible, not a probable. The rink most certainly omitted who the coaches would be for this, and many of us would rather be hung by our toenails than subject our children to one awful coach. They know this, and I have a feeling that's why the director left off that part. The awful man substituted for ds's coach during camp one day and I guess there were enough complaints and enough of us who refused that the original coach was back the next day. It's not fun to see numbers dwindle to a fraction. DS has a great skills coach that we pay through the nose for, but he hasn't set up his fall schedule yet and ds has a game on Saturday. So while it's still a no-go if this db is coaching, we're open to the possibility of anyone else this week. 2 Quote
Critterfixer Posted September 15, 2021 Author Posted September 15, 2021 Morning. I don't think I ever made it over here yesterday. It was such a wild morning, I didn't eat lunch until almost 2 pm. Today: House: chores Gardens: container watering School: scheduled day off Writing: catch up missed stuff from yesterday, continue revisions, drafting, journal, some research Extra: hair cuts today, and boy, do I ever need one. That stinks about the rink, @HomeAgain 2 Quote
serendipitous journey Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Morning. @Critterfixer-- hope today goes more smoothly. @HomeAgain -- Critterfixer said it well. That stinks about the rink. Hoping things come together well. Since y'all are the only folks I really can whine too (lucky you!) ... I don't want to plan my homeschool any more. I'm so tired of it. On the other hand, the more online classes the boys dabble in, the more I see the value of what we do here. Just imagine if it were actually organized!!! And we do need to hit school much more thoroughly this year. Last year we did a chunk of coasting on earlier years' work so there was some give in our little home system, so we could absorb some blows more gracefully. One can only do that for so long. Okay, whine over! Gratitude -- it's a marvelous opportunity I have here with my little ones & family. Thanks, y'all. Today: Planning! next up: draft of elder's booklists, and younger's "lesson plans" -- this is going through each subject and jotting down what the routine will be for that subject, and the programs used / WTM methods that apply (for writing especially). Which reminds me -- I'll probably put younger through an outlining program, need to locate that. Music for younger, art, other basic school. Chem, Russian, and art for elder, and start reading the first few chapters of Lingua Latina + do some grammar review from my MP charts. Dabble in math, hit writing. Fitness for me -- missed that yesterday, have migraine trickling around, would like to do Migraine Prevention Protocol which has fitness component. Fitness for boys. Housecleaning! Work outside! Date night! at an outdoor cafe. Grace and peace and joy to you today. 2 Quote
HomeAgain Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Well, it's a no-go. Turns out when someone questioned the rink's COVID plan, they also realized they didn't freaking have one. And that ran through like wildfire, going over about just as well, so they shut the programs down tonight. 2 Quote
serendipitous journey Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 Morning! Today: Fitness for boys (strength AM/early; run + DareBee PM) and for me (some yoga, aerobics, strength/stretch) For younger: music; Lingua Latina; art; reading For elder: writing; Russian; Lingua Latina independent reading; art; hit some math, too School planning Get grocery list ready for tomorrow Clean house, work outside some Read-alouds and bedtimes on the early end of things 1 Quote
HomeAgain Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 Afternoon! Today's list was: Help ds with editing his paper Tutor Get my background check done Laundry Make dinner Take ds to practice Work on my "cross-curricular' lesson plan. Y'all, it was really hard to come up with something that was short, could be presented online, and met the requirements. I've decided to do "simple machines in Ancient Egypt", where we'll look at a shaduf and possibly moving pyramid blocks, demonstrating the properties of each of the simple machines involved in the work. If I have enough time we'll do a tie in to a lesson on adjectives to describe different aspects, used later for a paragraph summarizing the material. 2 Quote
