LinRTX Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 My 21 year old is almost 48 hours out from her second shot. She is still running a fever of about 100.5 and has a bad headache. Is this within the normal range? And how much longer can we expect this to last? Quote
RootAnn Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 I would say still within normal but not typical. I'd expect the fever to be gone in another 12-24 hours but the headache may linger or go on & off for awhile longer. (Mine came & went for weeks. It was a stabbing pain at the base of my skull. Very unique.) Acetaminophen for the headache if she has no problems taking it. Hope she feels better soon! 1 Quote
Katy Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 It’s normal and is a good sign she’s having a strong immune response. Tylenol or Advil, possibly alternating every 3 hours, lots of water or a sports drink. Maybe a bit of caffeine. 1 Quote
happi duck Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 I honestly can't remember. I planned ahead to take it easy for several days. Posting to say that staying hydrated is really important and might help with the headache. Quote
MercyA Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 DH didn't feel well and had a fever (and I think a headache) for a couple days after his second shot. Normal and an indication of a good strong response! Quote
Ausmumof3 Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Yep. Followed by being ridiculously thirsty 1 Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Normal in the people I know. It lasted a few days. (Most two days. A couple up to four days). 1 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Totally normal!! To clarify, that is a vaccine response, not a reaction. 🙂 You want your body to do that—the body recognized the previous shot! 3 Quote
Starr Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Normal in our world. They told us most folks were feeling better in 72 hours.I didn't feel well for the 72 hours and then was fine. Quote
Starr Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 I hope she feels better soon. It isn't fun but better than 3 weeks of misery. Quote
ktgrok Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Normal. For vaccines in general you call if it is over a certain level - I want to say 102? Or maybe 101.2? But less than 101 is normal, and just take some advil and feel better. And hydrate! Hydration really helps. Quote
Spy Car Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 I did not have a fever, but did have a considerable headache the morning after shot #2. Rational--or not--I did not want to resort to acetaminophen, but did find considerable relief from massive hydration and copious amounts of coffee. I hope your daughter feels better soon. The vaccine is clearly working. That's a wonderful thing. Bill Quote
East Coast Sue Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 I had a migraine for 4.5 days after my first shot, but I had no side effects after the second shot. I hope her symptoms pass quickly. Quote
catz Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Sounds very similar to the reaction my 20 year old had. Definitely not outside the range of normal. Quote
LinRTX Posted August 31, 2021 Author Posted August 31, 2021 Thanks everyone for your replies. I finally heard from her again (she is away at college) and she says aches, fever, headache are all gone. And her exhaustion is improving. 11 1 Quote
