Jeana
We haven't done any formal writing program. I am going to do IEW SWI B for my 6th grader next term. I tried CW when he was a lot younger and found it too much for me on top of grammar and everything else. We are doing Rod and Staff 6 this year. I have been considering the idea of CW Aesop and Homer for Older Students for next year but eliminating Rod and Staff. Opinions, ideas on this? Thanks, Jeana

Mama Lynx
In Homer, your students will learn how to parse and diagram sentences. They will also learn how to play with sentences, changing their grammatical construction. They are asked to take a sentence and rewrite it, change the grammar in it, diagram it, and then to write a new sentence with the same diagram as the original. So you can look at that, and see if it would be suitable for your student. We use Classical Writing and we do Latin, and between the two I rarely have the need for an additional grammar program. We're doing Diogenes this year, and the diagramming and parsing is amazing!
Jeana
Thank you for that. I am thinking that I will do that. We are doing Latina Christiana I now and will be doing II next year. Thanks, Jeana O'Donnell
Susan in SoCal
Just another voice... Echo-ing Stephanie: we do Latin and CW. And no additional English grammar. Homer is GRAMMAR RICH, with heavy emphasis on the application and understanding of the concepts. We kept Harvey's English and R&S8 on hand, for reference only. If we needed further clarification of a concept, we grabbed one of those. But, mostly, we found the Homer explanations to be quite adequate.
